INDIANAPOLIS — The Dayton Boat Club masters rowing team — including two Fairborn rowers — earned a gold medal and a silver medal in races against clubs from across the Midwest.
The mixed masters eight boat took first out of six entries from Columbus, Indianapolis and St. Louis. The men’s four took silver in its nine-boat race with crews from Chicago, Indianapolis, St. Louis and Pittsburgh. The women’s eight came in sixth.
Participating DBC rowers and coaches included Vicki Schwab and Marion Stout of Fairborn; Anne Athmer, Vince Leopold, Amy O’Connor, Jennifer Speed and Jane Wittmann of Oakwood; Maureen Schlangen of Kettering; Susan Federinko and Pete Hoshor of Centerville; Marty Carrabine of Springboro; and Becky Rounds, Andy Walczak and Julie Wittmann of Dayton. Carrabine and Julie Wittmann coach the team. Novice rower Mark Mathews of Beavercreek also attended.

Dayton Boat Club is part of Dayton Regional Rowing, the nation’s only Community Olympic Development Program for rowing. A partnership of USRowing, Five Rivers MetroParks, the Dayton Boat Club and the Greater Dayton Rowing Association, Dayton Regional Rowing offers a community-based rowing program that helps athletes develop their performance, thus enhancing the Olympic sports feeder system in Dayton.
