Tractors, fans roar at Greene County Fair

XENIA — Greene County Fair fans had plenty to cheer about at the annual Ohio State Tractor Pull Association truck and tractor pull events held Friday, Aug. 4 in front of a rowdy grandstand crowd.

The infield public address announcer commented on how it’s not often where the pullers can hear the fans cheering over the noise of the engines, but that was the case Friday night. The knowledgeable crowd gave a mighty roar to every full pass (300 feet) or more.

They watched Jeremy Smith of Medina claim the first-place win in the Pro Stock Tractor class with a near-full pull of 295 feet, 6 inches on his John Deere 7520 tractor called Hystrung. Josh Parker was runner up with a 289 feet, 9-inch pass on Out For Justice.

In the Two-Wheel Drive Truck pull, the fans had a local driver to cheer for as Marshal Foiles of Xenia piloted his Chevy S-10 Funny Car-style truck called Kickstart My Heart to a 287-3 pass, good for ninth place in the 13-truck field.

Circleville driver ob McCerley won the division aboard a souped up 1923 Ford C Cab machine called At It Again. The crowd roared when McCerley pulled the weighted sled 316 feet and 9 inches. That bested fellow Circlevillian Richard McPherson by just over 3 feet (313-8).

Fair fans got to see the technical monstrosities of the OSTPA’s Modified class as well. Ashland driver Rick Krause’s four-turbine engined monster known as Unfinished Business took care of business on Friday night with a winning 296-foot pass. Germantown’s Alan Judy was second on Raptor, a tractor powered by three supercharged hemi engines that traveled 268-8.

The Super Stock class was still running as of presstime. You can go to the Ohio State Tractor Pull Association’s website (OSTPA.com) for complete results.
