Rams win tri-match

XENIA — Greeneview won a boys high school golf tri-match over Legacy Christian and South Charleston Southeastern, Aug. 22 at Sebastian Hills Golf Course. Southeastern’s Avery Green claimed medalist honors with an even-par 35. Mason Witt led the Rams (1-4, 1-2 Ohio Heritage Conference) with a 38, and Eli Beekman was next with a 45. Other Greeneview scores were turned in by: Matt Hovan (52); Levi Bradds (49); Tye Frost (53); and Detric Hovan (59). No individual scores for Legacy Christian were available.

Beavercreek defeats Lebanon

LEBANON — Kevin Davis scored a goal and added an assist, Ryan Bernt, Vaughn Ernst, Evan Williams, Hunter Jackson and Jack Towers each scored goals, while Jacob Westerkamp, Joshua Fleck and Jonah Ackerson added assists in Beavercreek’s 6-2 win over Lebanon on Aug. 22.

In junior varsity action, Phillip Wynn, Mitchell Manzardo, Dilpreet Sandhu and Destiny Ezeliora scored, with Freddie Henson added two assists in a 4-0 Beavers win over Lebanon.

Troy sweeps Fairborn

TROY — Host Troy claimed a 5-0 win over Fairborn on Aug. 22. Troy’s Katie Sherrick defated Paige Murry 6-0, 6-1 at first singles, Tiana Thomas lost her season debut at second singles by a 6-0, 6-0 count to the Trojans’ Emma Kagmain, and McKenzie Nosker defeated McKayla Lyons 6-2, 6-0 to win all three singles matches.

In doubles, the Fairborn tandem of Amanda Wilson and Rita Chien lost at No. 1 to Troy’s Jackie Fulker-Harley Taylor duo, 6-0, 6-0, and Katelyn Byczkowski and Caitlin Sanders lost at second doubles to Cady Rhea and Kit Wolke by a 6-2, 6-1 score.

In junior varsity action, the doubles team of Abby Lafferty and Caitlin Bowling won their match. Makayla Byndom fell in singles action, and Melissa Le split two matches, winning one and losing one.

The loss drops the Skyhawks to 1-4 overall, and 0-1 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference’s American League division. Fairborn will host GWOC AL foe Tipp City Tippecanoe on Thursday, Aug. 24, on the Community Park courts.

Aviators nip Skyhawks

FAIRBORN — The Fairborn high school boys soccer team lost 3-2 to Vandalia Butler on Aug. 22. The ‘Hawks scored on two set-play crosses from Keegan Dierker to Zayne Pacifico. Both goals were head-ball goals. The Skyhawks play Tecumseh at 2:45 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26 in New Carlisle.

Fairborn defeats Trotwood-Madison

TROTWOOD — Fairborn had a strong showing Aug. 22 in its first Greater Western Ohio Conference, American South girls high school volleyball game, winning 25-11, 25-8, 25-7 over Trotwood-Madison. Leading the team offensively was senior Kayleigh Finlayson with seven kills, 10 digs and an ace. Senior Eryn Thomas had five kills to help with offense. Freshman Hani Sampson also had five kills, but also had 11 digs and two aces. Fairborn had a strong serving game. Sam Hart, Zuza Livosky, Jessica Black and Elena North all had five aces each.

Fairborn takes on Riverside Stebbins, Thursday Aug. 24 at home.

Bellbrook bedeviled

ARCANUM — Brookville golfers finished 1-2-3 and the Blue Devils claimed a 167-193 Southwestern Buckeye League win over Bellbrook on Aug. 22 at Beechwood Golf Course. Parker Holt claimed medalist honors with a 3-over 39, followed by teammates Kyle Neff and Ben Smith. Bellbrook’s Zack Crampton tied with Brookville’s Jagan Wilkerson for fourth place at 45.

Other Bellbrook scores were turned in by Joey Derrico (47), Hunter Turner (49) and Ryan Wehner (52).

Tecumseh blanks Fairborn

FAIRBORN — Despite a solid three-set outing by Fairborn’s Paige Murry, the Skyhawks were shut out by visiting New Carlisle Tecumseh on Aug. 21, 5-0.

Murry, making her return into the lineup after an injury, battled to a 6-0, 1-6, 6-1 loss at No. 1 singles. McKayla Lyons lost at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-3, and third singles’ Amanda Wilson had a 6-2, 6-0 loss.

The Rita Chien-Katelyn Byszkowski pair lost 6-2, 6-2 at first doubles, and Makayla Byndom and Caitlin Bowling lost at No. doubles, 6-3, 6-1.

In junior varsity matches, Tiana Thomas and freshman Melissa Le claimed an 8-6 pro-set win at doubles.

Tecumseh nips Fairborn

FAIRBORN — Visiting New Carlisle Tecumseh scored a second-half goal to claim a 1-0 win over the Fairborn girls soccer team on Monday, Aug. 21. Fairborn is now 0-2 this season, while Tecumseh is 2-0.

Bellbrook JVs fall to Monroe

LEBANON — Gabe Hine led the Bellbrook junior varsity golfers with a score of 49, but host Monroe claimed a 202-221 win, Aug. 21 on Shaker Run’s Meadows course. Monroe’s Jordan Clark claimed top score honors with a 46. Other Bellbrook scores were: Cameron Early, 55; Ryan Swanson, 57; and Ryan Cross, 60.

Arrows rally past Fairborn

NEW CARLISLE — After Fairborn claimed a marathon 31-29 first-set win on Aug. 21, host Tecumseh rallied for 25-15, 25-19, 25-14 wins to claim the girls high school volleyball match.

Senior Kayleigh Finlayson led the Skyhawks with 15 digs, two aces, a 2.95 passing average and three kills. Freshman Hani Sampson had 10 digs and a passing average of 2.89, and Fairborn senior Eryn Thomas smashed five kills.

Indians win over Greeneview

SPRINGFIELD — Greeneview’s Mason Witt scored a 1-under 35, Cedarville’s Adam Wood shot a 40, fellow Indian Noah Myers was next with a 42, the Rams’ Matt Hovan was fourth overall with a 46, and the Indians’s Jadon Horsley shot a 48 in Cedarville’s 173-180 high school golf team win Aug. 21 at Locust Hills Golf Course. Cedarville evened up its record at 2-2 overall and in Ohio Heritage Conference play with the win.Bellbrook blanks Butler

BELLBROOK — Bellbrook claimed five straight-set wins over Vandalia Butler on Aug. 21 in a non-league boys high school match.

DOUBLES — 1. Shultz/Buttery def. Hess/Scarpelli, 6-2, 6-2; 2. Tschantz/Leftwich def. Dean/Burton, 7-6(3), 6-2.
