Indians lose home opener

CEDARVILLE — The Cedarville Indians fell at home to the Strasburg-Franklin Tigers, Sept. 1 by a score of 55-24. The Indians struggled on defense to control the Tigers’ dynamic offense as Cedarville fell to 0-2 on the season.

Cedarville has a very young football team. There is not a single senior on the team this season and their inexperience showed. The defense committed multiple encroachment penalties in the first half that helped the Tigers offense move down the field.

The Tigers’ offense was on display as they drove down the field to score regularly. The Indians did not force a single defensive stop in the game and particularly struggled defending the pass. The Indians had given up 48 points by halftime.

“We have got to be more physical,” Cedarville’s coach Jason Christian said. “We got pushed around on defense a little bit and we never stopped them.”

However, it wasn’t all bad for the Indians this game. They had a strong running game that picked up nearly 150 yards and added three touchdowns.

Brandon Pollock scored two touchdowns while Kane Odon and Andrew Pollander combined for over 100 rushing yards. Pollander also caught a pass from Colby Cross for the only passing touchdown for the Indians.

“We ran the ball well and we’ve seen a big improvement from last year,” Christian said.

The Indians will look to build off of their offense and improve from this game against their next opponent.

Cedarville will take on Ohio Heritage Conference foe West Liberty-Salem next Friday Sept. 8.
