WILBERFORCE — Central State University’s starting backcourt of Sierra Harley and Takyra Gilbert combined for 55 points as the women’s basketball team cruised to a 98-70 win over Ohio Valley, Nov. 12.
“Takyra is a high-energy guard and makes things happen for our other players when she is playing well. Good players are able to bounce back after a poor performance and that is exactly what she did. Today was a good bounce-back performance after yesterday’s loss. We played better defense and took advantage OVU’s turnovers,” CSU Coach Lewis Shine said.
Bouncing back from a Nov. 11 loss to Salem University, CSU improved to 1-1 overall. OVU fell to 0-2 on the season.
Harley finished the night with a game-high 28 points, six rebounds, eight steals and six assists. After an 0-for-10 performance in her prior game, Gilbert had a tremendous bounce-back game with 27 points, five assists and three steals. Davis also filled the stat sheet with 17 points, six assists, four steals and seven rebounds.
CSU held a 37-10 edge in points scored off of turnovers.
OVU was led by 19 points from Jordan Cox. Zae Sellers recorded 15 points and 12 rebounds.
CSU will return to action at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16 when they host Cedarville University.
“We are going to continue to work on our overall game and get ready for Cedarville on Thursday,” Shine said.
