Miorelli earns spot

CEDARVILLE — Cedarville University midfielder Grace Miorelli has been selected to the Conference Commissioner’s Association Division II Midwest Region Women’s Soccer Second Team.

The senior from Souderton, Pa. was named to the squad all four years of her career. Miorelli was a first-team choice in both 2013 and 2014 when the program was sponsored by Daktronics, as well as a second team honoree in 2015. She missed the 2016 campaign with an injury. Miorelli guided the Lady Jackets to an 11-6-2 record this season by leading the team in scoring with seven goals and four assists for 18 points.

An All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference First Team midfielder, she ended her career third on the school’s all-time scoring list with 105 points. She rates second all-time in assists (29) and third in goals (38).

Two make G-MAC Team

CEDARVILLE — Cedarville University Yellow Jacket middle hitters Gabby Olson and Lauren Willow have been voted to the 2017 Great Midwest Athletic Conference women’s volleyball team. The selections were made by the league’s head coaches.

Olson, a senior from Gibsonia, Pa., is part of the 12-member first team and Willow, a freshman from Arlington, is on the second team. Olson, who was the 2016 G-MAC Player of the Year, leads the conference with 1.28 blocks per set. She rates fourth in attack percentage (.316) and fifth in kills per set (3.14). Willow rates second on the team in blocks (0.94) and fourth in kills (2.15). Like Olson, she played in all 124 sets covering the team’s 32 matches.

Xenia opens at classic

HILLSBORO — The Xenia High School boys basketball team will open its season with a 9 p.m. contest on Friday, Dec. 1 in the Ohio Valley Hoops Classic. The Buccaneers will take on Cincinnati Princeton at Southern State College’s Patriot Center.

Princeton features Syracuse University signee Darius Bazley, the top ranked senior in Ohio and the No. 9 rated senior in the country according to ESPN.

Tickets are $10 and include three games that evening. Wilmington plays Campbell County Ky. in the game preceding Xenia. Tickets are available at the door or on the ohiovalleyhoopsclassic.com website.

Bucs in Flyin’ to the Hoop

DAYTON — Xenia High will be among the area and national teams participating in the annual Flyin’ to the Hoop Invitational basketball showcase event.

The Buccaneers, led by junior Samari Curtis who is considered by the tournament as the pre-season fourth ranked junior in Ohio, are scheduled to play Olentangy Liberty at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 at James S. Trent Arena, in Kettering.
