Indians win at Troy

TROY — Cedarville’s girls high school basketball team traveled north to take on Division I Troy, and came away with a convincing 49-29 win over the Trojans, Jan. 8. The Indians charged out to a 21-3 lead after one quarter of play, and led 29-9 at halftime. No individual statistics were reported for Cedarville. McKenna Taylor led Troy (5-6) with 14 points scored.

Cedarville is currently 7-2 overall and in first place in the Ohio Heritage Conference’s South Division with a 6-0 mark. The Indians’ next game will be Thursday, Jan. 11 when they’ll host OHC North foe Fairbanks (4-6, 3-3 OHC North).

Knights top Troy Christian

XENIA — Legacy Christian Academy held a 30-8 lead at the break, then cruised to a 40-22 win, Jan. 8. No individual statistics were reported by either team. LCA is now 12-2 overall and in first place in the Metro Buckeye Conference with a 7-0 league record. Troy Christian remains in second place in the MBC at 8-2, 5-1 MBC. The Knights return to action at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18 when they’ll play Dayton Christian at Watts Middle School in Centerville.

LCA falls to Emmanuel Christian

SPRINGFIELD — Emmanuel Christian claimed a 2,594 – 2,070 boys high school bowling win over Legacy Christian Academy on Jan. 8. Ethan Croucher led the Knights with a 366 two-game series and Joshua Combs was the other LCA bowler over the 300 mark with a 305. Dylan Herring led Emmanuel Christian (7-4, 4-1 Metro Buckeye Conference) with a match-high 438 series.

LCA, now 3-5, 1-4 MBC, will next take on Valley View at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12 at PlaMor Lanes.

Skyhawk girls sink Yellow Jackets

FAIRBORN — The Fairborn High School girls varsity bowling team nipped Sidney by 66 pins to claim a 1,669 to 1,603 Greater Western Ohio Conference win on Jan. 8. No individual scores were reported by Fairborn. Sidney (2-5, 2-2 GWOC American North) was led by Camryn Smith who rolled a 303 two-game series. Fairborn is now 4-3 overall, 4-2 and in second place in the GWOC American South. The Skyhawks’ next match is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11 at Dayton ‘s Capri Lanes against Trotwood-Madison.

Sidney bowls over Fairborn

FAIRBORN — Undefeated Sidney (7-0, 5-0 Greater Western Ohio Conference American North) defeated Fairborn by a 2,334 to 2,106 score in boys high school bowling on Jan. 8. Sidney’s Austin Simon rolled a 451 two-game series to lead the Yellow Jackets. No individual scores were reported for Fairborn (3-4, 3-3 GWOC American South). The Skyhawks are scheduled to bowl next at 4 p.m. Thursday against GWOC American South foe Trotwood-Madison at Capri Lanes in Dayton.

Bucs Flyin’ to the Hoop

DAYTON — Xenia High will be among the area and national teams participating in the annual Flyin’ to the Hoop Invitational basketball showcase event.

The Buccaneers are scheduled to play Olentangy Liberty at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 at James S. Trent Arena, in Kettering.

Spring Has Sprung 5K in April

XENIA — Registration is open for Greene County Public Health’s ninth annual “Spring Has Sprung” Healthy Families 5K Run/Walk, Saturday, April 14 at the Xenia YMCA, 135 E. Church St.

Registration and check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Xenia YMCA with a Zumba warm-up at 8:30 a.m. and the pet- and stroller-friendly run/walk beginning at 9 a.m. The course features a flat terrain in and around the Xenia area beginning and ending at the Xenia YMCA. There will also be a free “Wee OneRun” at 8:45 a.m. for ages 5 and younger.

The cost is $15 per person by Friday, April 6, which includes an event T-shirt (guaranteed). After April 6, including the day of the race, the cost is $20 per person (T-shirt included while supplies last). Teams of 10 or more are eligible to receive a discount. Smith headlines WSU event

FAIRBORN — Major league pitcher and WSU baseball alum Joe Smith will be the keynote speaker for the 14th annual First Pitch Banquet Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018 at Moraine Country Club.

The First Pitch Banquet features a sit-down dinner, program, and a silent auction. The evening will all go to benefit current and future student-athletes of the Wright State baseball program. The cost is $70 for a general admission ticket and $1,000 for a VIP table (seats 10 guests). The VIP table includes a pre-event meet and greet cocktail hour with Smith and recognition during the program. Doors will open to the public with the silent auction beginning 6 p.m.

Horizon tourney tickets on sale

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Tickets for the 2018 Little Caesars Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championship — to be played at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Mich. — are on sale at HorizonLeague.com, the Little Caesars Arena Box Office, or the Little Caesars Arena Ticket Sales and Service Office 313-471-7575. Fans can purchase tickets now by calling or visiting their favorite school’s box office.

Ticket prices for Motor City Madness, which will take place March 2-6, begin at $15 per day and will feature all 20 Horizon League teams competing in 18 games over a five-day span. The tournament will culminate with a pair of championship games on Tuesday, March 6 with automatic berths to the NCAA Basketball Tournament on the line. Tickets purchased for each day are valid for all games on that day.
