CINCINNATI — Hall of Fame shortstop Barry Larkin, a legend of the Cincinnati Reds, a native of the City and a 1990 World Series Champion, has been selected as an official 2015 MLB All-Star spokesperson, joining current Reds All-Star third baseman Todd Frazier.

As an All-Star spokesperson, Larkin will help to generate public awareness for the 86th MLB All-Star Game and its surrounding events and will make a variety of appearances throughout All-Star Week in his hometown of Cincinnati.

In addition to winning nine Silver Slugger Awards (1988-1992, 1995-96, 1998-99) and three Gold Glove Awards (1994-96), Larkin was a 12-time National League All-Star (1988-91, 1993-97, 1999-2000, 2004). Larkin was the 1993 recipient of the Roberto Clemente Award, MLB’s highest off-field honor, and he earned the 1995 National League Most Valuable Player. In 1996, he set career highs with 33 home runs and 89 RBI, to go along with a .410 on-base percentage, a .567 slugging percentage, 36 stolen bases and 117 runs scored.

Larkin was inducted to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2012.

MLB All-Star Week at Great American Ball Park includes the 86th MLB All-Star Game (July 14), Gatorade All-Star Workout Day (July 13) featuring the Home Run Derby, All-Star Sunday (July 12), including the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game and the All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game, and T-Mobile All‑Star FanFest at the Duke Energy Convention Center (July 10-14).

Evelyn Alder to be honored at Fifth Third Field on Monday, June 15

DAYTON – The Dragons, Vectren, and AT&T will honor Evelyn Alder during the unique “Community All-Stars” program at 7 p.m. Monday, June 15 when the Dayton Dragons take on the Beloit Snappers at Fifth Third Field.

Alder created The Gleaning Place in May of 2011. What started as a garage sale eventually led to a store front in West Milton, Ohio. The Gleaning Place takes gently used items and sells them to the community for reasonable prices. All profits go back to New Path Ministries, a charitable organization assisting the community. Evelyn volunteers over 60 hours a week managing The Gleaning Place.

Thanks to her hard work, the store’s dedicated volunteers and the support of the community, The Gleaning Place has donated over $250,000 back into the region. When asked about her key to success, Alder provided her philosophy of treating people like human beings, bringing smiles to their faces and not being afraid to offer a hug. For her selfless service to others, she has been selected as a Dragons Community All-Star. The program honors those that have gone above and beyond to improve the quality of life in the Miami Valley.
