BEAVERCREEK — There’s a reason why the Huber Heights Wayne Warriors are considered one of the best Division I programs in Ohio, and they showed that in Friday’s 48-0 trouncing of Beavercreek.

Wayne dominated in all facets of the game in Friday’s win. Beavercreek coach Nic Black admired the Warriors’ play, but wasn’t so happy with how his Beavers executed against them.

“They’ve got so much talent and skill, but they don’t have just that. They kicked our butt on the front line, which is exactly the polar opposite of what we had last week (in a 35-28 loss to Centerville),” Black said.

After an opening drive interception toss, the Warriors (9-0, 4-0 Greater Western Ohio Conference, Central) scored on four of their next six possessions to jump out to a 28-0 lead at halftime.

Wayne quarterback Messiah DeWeaver had thrown touchdown passes of 20, 43, 93 and 34 yards in the first half alone. Daryl McCeskey snared the first TD pass for a 20-yard score, L’Christian Smith nabbed the next three.

Three of the Warriors first four scores were the result of one-play drives. The other one required three.

Unofficially, Beavercreek was limited to 29 yards of offense and five total first downs for the game. Beavers runners carried the ball 41 times and gained 17 yards.

“That says a lot for our guys, our players, our defensive coaches, our whole staff,” Wayne coach Jay Minton said. “They just continue to do a great job of getting our kids in the right position to make plays, especially against that offense. It was like we were right there for every play.

“Bottom line is, the coaches coach but the players play. And that’s where our production comes from.”

In the past four games, Wayne has outscored its opponents 169-6.

Wayne scored on two second-half fumble recoveries in the Beavercreek end zone. Wendell Wheeler recovered a fumbled pitchout for one score. Then Nyem Wilson fell on a fumbled punt return in the Beavercreek end zone for yet another score. Between those two crazy plays, Wayne back Fred Pitts appeared to fumble a third-quarter handoff, but teammate Matt Wilcox came up with the ball and reeled off a 65-yard run for the other Warrior score.

A running game clock for most of the second half prevented further damage. Back-up QB Wayne Trice took a knee to run out the clock with Wayne perched on the Beavercreek 12-yard line.

Wayne quarterback Messiah DeWeaver completed 10 of 18 passes for 244 yards, and connected on those four touchdown passes.

Beavercreek (6-3, 2-2 GWOC Central) finished with 30 yards in total offense. The Beavers will close out the regular season with a home game against Kettering Fairmont on Friday.

Wayne has a showdown with co-Central leading Centerville on Friday in Huber Heights.
