Riddle signs with Ohio Christian

XENIA — Xenia Christian senior Katie Riddle signed last week to play women’s soccer at Ohio Christian University.

Riddle led the Ambassadors in scoring with seven goals and seven assists, and was named to the Metro Buckeye Conference’s 2015 all-conference first team. Xenia Christian finished with a 4-12 overall record, but finished second in the MBC with a 3-2-0 mark.

The Ohio Christian Trailblazers, led by first-year coach Jake Warren, are currently 11-8 this season. They’ll play at Houghton (N.Y.) College in the National Christian College Athletic Association Division I regional finals on Saturday. The team’s freshman forward, Haylee Francis, hails from Fairborn.

Bradds OVC Player of the Week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Belmont University men’s basketball junior Evan Bradds (Jamestown, Ohio) has been named the Ohio Valley Conference’s Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

The 6-7 forward scored a career-high tying 24 points on 10-for-13 shooting in the Bruins’ stirring 83-80 victory at Marquette Friday night. Bradds added nine rebounds and drew a game-saving charge on heralded freshman Henry Ellenson to help ensure the victory.

Bradds, a Second Team All-OVC selection in 2015 and Preseason All-OVC honoree, led the nation in field goal percentage last season (.688). The Jamestown, Ohio native also set a new league standard by shooting .756 in conference games a year ago.

Belmont lost on Monday, 83-74, at Arizona State. Bradds currently leads the Bruins with a 17.5 points-per-game average. He also leads the team in rebounding with seven per game, and is second in free throw percentage with .875 (7-for-8).

Raider swimmers earn HL honors

FAIRBORN — The Wright State swimming and diving programs picked up two Horizon League weekly honors on Tuesday as Mitch Stover was named as the Male Swimmer of the Week and Samantha TenEyck the Female Diver of the Week.

Stover (Versailles) won all three individual events he competed in as the Raiders faced Oakland and Illinois-Chicago, Saturday in Rochester, Mich. He won the 100-meter backstroke (49.69), 200 backstroke (1:49.61) and 200 individual medley (1:51.32). Stover was also a part of the 200 medley relay team that placed third.

This is the second time Stover has received the Male Swimmer of the Week recognition from the league as he was also named on Nov. 3.

TenEyck (Millbury Lake) won both diving competitions at the Oakland/UIC meet, taking the one-meter with a score of 254.75 and the three-meter at 248.05.

Wright State returns to action this weekend by competing at the UofL Invitational in Louisville, Ky.

WSU women rally past Kent State

KENT — A 16-4 run over the final 3:28 lifted the Wright State women’s basketball team to its first win of the season Tuesday, a 73-68 decision at Kent State.

Wright State’s Kim Demmings led all scorers with 26 points, 10 coming in the fourth quarter, and posted a double-double as she tied a career high with 14 rebounds. Symone Denham added 14 points and Antania Hayes 11 while Richelle van der Kejl also recorded a double-double with 11 points and a career-best 15 rebounds.

Wright State (1-1) hosts Lipscomb in its home opener at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19, at 7:00. It will be the start of a three-game homestand in five days for the Raiders. They’ll host Austin Peay at 2 p.m. Saturday and Southeastern Louisiana at 7 p.m. Monday.

Harris, Grundy on Ashland playoff team

ASHLAND — The Ashland University football team begins its quest for a national championship at home against Grand Valley State in an NCAA Division II Super Region 4 quarterfinal at noon, Saturday (Nov. 21) at Jack Miller Stadium/Martinelli Field.

While they once were high school rivals, wide receiver Khiyani Harris (Xenia) and offensive lineman Anthony Grundy (Fairborn) are now teammates on the Ashland University Eagles Football Team.

AU has won two consecutive games against GVSU, including this year on Oct. 31, a 45-31 decision at home. The Lakers lead the all-time series, 16-4. Ashland earned its second undefeated regular season in the last four years this fall. The Eagles have won a school-record 12 consecutive home games.

This is the Ashland football program’s sixth trip to the Division II playoffs (1986, 1996, 2007, 2008 and 2012). Saturday’s game will be the program’s third-ever home postseason contest.
