Raiders fall to Oakland (Mich.)

FAIRBORN — The Wright State University trailed by just six midway through the second half before a 14-2 Oakland run lifted the Golden Grizzlies to an 89-73 Horizon League decision, Monday night, at WSU’s Nutter Center.

Oakland shot 46 percent for the game, 11 of 19 from three-point range, and hit 22 of 23 free throws, compared to 40 percent shooting, six of 16 from three-point range and 21 of 27 at the line for WSU.

Mark Alstork led the Raiders with 18 points while Joe Thomasson had 13 and Biggie Minnis 12 off the bench.

Oakland (19-9, 11-4 Horizon) had five players score in double figures, led by Martez Walker’s 22 off the bench while Jalen Hayes posted a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Kay Felder also recorded a double-double of 15 points and 12 assists while Percy Gibson had 14 points off the bench and Max Hooper added 12.

Wright State (16-12, 10-5 Horizon) closes out the home portion of its schedule at 7 p.m. on Saturday, February 20, as the Raiders host Northern Kentucky. WSU’s five seniors — Daniel Collie, Michael Karena, Minnis, Thomasson and JT Yoho — will be honored following the game.

Charger 300 Club event supports Edison State Athletes

PIQUA — The Edison State Community College Foundation and Athletics Department are partnering to host the seventh annual Charger 300 Club event at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, in the Robinson Theater at the Piqua Campus. The event is held to help raise funds for the College’s athletic programs.

A reverse raffle will highlight the evening’s events, with one lucky winner walking away with a $10,000 prize. Other cash drawings will be held throughout the night and ticket holders are not required to be present to win.

Tickets are $100 per couple and include all-you-can-eat buffet, beverages, entertainment, and a chance to win. A silent auction will also be held featuring items such as NFL tickets, Dayton Dragon tickets, gift cards, and more.

Funds raised by the event assist Edison State in providing the best experience possible for student-athletes and have previously assisted the teams in post-season travel, uniform expenses, and equipment and facility upgrades.

Edison State’s baseball, basketball, and volleyball teams compete in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference and are Division II members of the National Junior College Athletic Association. Within the last year, Edison State has also made the club sports of cross country and women’s soccer available to students.

Xenia boys tournament tickets on sale

XENIA — Xenia Boys Basketball opens tournament play at 8:30 p.m. Friday February 19 against Troy at Butler High School in Vandalia.

Tickets are on sale daily in the Athletic Office daily from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pre Sale tickets are $6, all tickets at the game are $7.

Dragons anthem tryouts Feb. 27

DAYTON —The Dayton Dragons minor league baseball team will host National Anthem tryouts from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Mall at Fairfield Commons in Beavercreek.

The winners will perform the national anthem at Dragons games throughout the season, with the grand prize winner performing at Opening Day 2016 before the Dragons host the Bowling Green Hot Rods at Fifth Third Field 4 p.m. Saturday, April 9.

Pre-registration is now under way at daytondragons.com/nationalanthem. The first 200 entrants who pre-register for this event will receive a scheduled tryout time.

BASEBALL CAMP

Beavercreek baseball clinic March 12

BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek High School varsity baseball team will hold its sixth annual youth baseball clinic on Saturday, March 12. The clinic is for youth baseball players ages 8-14 and will be held in the main and auxiliary gyms at Beavercreek High School.

The morning session is for players ages 8-10 and costs $30. It begins at 9 a.m. and concludes at 11 a.m. The afternoon session is for ages 11-14. The full afternoon session is from 1 to 3 p.m., followed by a pitching-only segment from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. The fee for older players is $40.

Registration and fees will be processed on the day of the clinic. A camp t-shirt will be provided to all participants. Members of the team and the coaching staff will conduct the clinic. All proceeds from the clinic will go to the Beavercreek varsity baseball team.

Participants should bring their gloves, bats and helmets. Please note that if weather permits, portions of the clinic could be conducted outside. Participants should also bring cleats and suitable clothing.

Arnold 5K run set for March 6

COLUMBUS — The 16th annual Arnold 5K will be held on Sunday, March 6 in downtown Columbus. The race is part of the Arnold Sports Festival Weekend. All entrants receive an Arnold 5K race T-shirt and a free entry ($20 value) to the 27th Annual Arnold Sports Festival after the race, plus the top 500 finishers receive Arnold 5K medals.

Fairborn girls softball taking registrations

FAIRBORN — The Fairborn Girls Softball Association is now accepting registrations for its fastpitch girls 10U to 18U and slowpitch girls 5-20 leagues. Girls from all communities are welcome.

Registration fee is $70 starting March 1, with a $10 discount for additional family members.

In-person registration will take place from 1-3 p.m. Feb. 21 at The Inside Scoop, located at 313 W. Main St.

BELLBROOK — The Bellbrook Lions Club and Bellbrook T-Ball would like to announce registrations for the Summer Baseball/Softball program for children ages 6 through 15. Registration will take place at Stephen Bell Elementary in front of the gym entrance from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, February 27th, and from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 3rd.
