Skyhawks win Tennessee tourney opener

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Fairborn opened up the Pounder Invitational with a 5-1 victory over Central Tennessee. Jacob Webb pitched a complete game. Webb dealt a 3-hitter, giving up one run. Offensively, the Skyhawks struck first with a run in the first inning, and had the bases loaded twice, but they were unable to capitalize until the seventh inning. Ryan Profitt got the go-ahead single, and Dustin Myers executed a suicide squeeze. It was total team win.

The Skyhawks (3-1) were to play Aurora, Ill. on Thursday, but the game was rained out. They’re scheduled to play Southside, Ala. at 5:15 p.m. on Friday, and against Sale Creek, Tenn. at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

New Carlisle Tecumseh 3, Greeneview 2

JAMESTOWN — New Carlisle Tecumseh claimed two of three singles matches and split the doubles contests to claim a 3-2 win over Greeneview on Monday in the Rams’ season opener.

Dayton Dragons single-game tickets now on sale

DAYTON — Single game tickets for the 2016 season are on sale now at the Dragons Box Office located next to the main entry gates at Fifth Third Field. The box office is open throughout the season from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. On weekend game dates, the box office will open at noon and close following the game. The Box Office will be closed on Saturdays and Sundays when the team is on the road. Single-game tickets can be purchased in person, at the Dragons box office, any Miami Valley Kroger store, or any Ticketmaster outlet; online at daytondragons.com; or by phone by calling the Dragons Box office at 937-228-2287 or Ticketmaster charge-by-phone at 937-228-2323.

Xenia YRC baseball, softball signups Sunday

XENIA — The final day for Xenia Youth Recreation Club softball and baseball league signups will take place from noon-3 p.m. Sunday. Registrations can be made on the second floor of the Eagles Lodge, 682 W. 2nd St., in Xenia during that time.

Boys and girls teams for kids ages 3-16 are still available. Registration costs range from $75-95, depending on the age of the ballplayer. Games will be played at Evans Acres, 640 Birch Rd. in Xenia. Girls softball games are set to begin on April 18, youth games for players 8-up will start on May 2 and the Xenia YRC’s official opening day will take place on Saturday, May 7.

Beavercreek hosting fundamentals girls basketball camp

BEAVERCREEK — The 16th Amanda (Reese) Crockett and Ed Zink Beavercreek Fundamental Girls Basketball Camp will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 6-9 at Beavercreek High School.

Cost is $100 per camper with a $10 discount for additional campers from the same family. Anyone who registers by May 20 can register for $90.

Camp will be administered and taught by Beavercreek’s all-time scoring leader Amanda (Reese) Crockett, and current Beavers coach and three-time coach of the year Ed Zink, along with current and former basketball players.

The camp is designed to provide campers with personal attention to improve their basketball fundamentals. Campers will also develop their skills and teamwork each day during league play.

Campers will receive a camp t-shirt, a drink each day, and trophies/awards for contest winners.

Also, Thursday June 9 is Mother-Daughter Camp Day, and family members are invited to participate.

Rotary Club outing, May 20

BEAVERCREEK — The Rotary Club of Beavercreek will host the 34th Annual Beavercreek Rotary Club Memorial Golf Outing Friday, May 20 at the City of Beavercreek Golf Club.

The four-team scramble format will provide prizes for skills competitions throughout the day. Check in begins at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start slated for 12:30 p.m. The awards ceremony will follow the scramble at 5 p.m. on the patio overlooking the course.

Cost for the scramble is $100 per person; $400 per foursome. The fee includes greens fee, cart, lunch, and refreshments. Registration is currently open. In addition, there are several opportunities for organizations to sponsor the event, including.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Beavercreek Schools’ Multi-handicapped classrooms, Wright State University scholarships, STEM fellowships and Owen’s Place.

Spring Has Sprung 5K April 2

XENIA — Registration is now open for Greene County Public Health’s Seventh Annual Spring Has Sprung Healthy Families 5K Run-Walk Saturday, April 2 at the Xenia YMCA located at 135 E. Church St.

This event supports the efforts of the health district to provide and promote healthier lifestyle choices in Greene County, and encourages healthy, active lifestyles in Greene County.

Registration and check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Xenia YMCA with the pet- and stroller-friendly run-walk beginning at 9 a.m. The course features a flat terrain in and around the Xenia area beginning and ending at the Xenia YMCA. Afterwards, healthy refreshments will be provided and participants can visit the various sponsors and vendors in the gymnasium.

The cost is $15 per person by March 25, which includes an event T-shirt. After March 25, the cost is $20 per person – T-shirt not guaranteed. Teams of 10 or more are eligible to receive a discount. Medals will be awarded to the top three male/female in each age category and a grand prize will be awarded for the top male/female overall.
