HUBER HEIGHTS — Shane English, 20, of Fairborn was pronounced dead Wednesday after striking a utility pole at Interstate-70 and State Route 201.

According to the Dayton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, English was driving a Chevrolet Malibu east on Interstate-70 at a rate of high speed at approximately 2:21 p.m. Troopers said English exited I-70 at State Route 201, continued through a red light at the intersection, travelled off the right side of the road before hitting the pole. The vehicle was then engulfed in flames.

English was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash caused power line failure across Interstate-70 and eastbound lanes were closed as crews repaired the utility pole, according to the post.

According to Troopers before the crash occurred, the speed of the vehicle was more than 100 miles per hour. As troopers tried to stop the vehicle, it swerved and got on the exit ramp at State Route 201, resulting in the crash, the release said.

The Huber Heights Police Department, Huber Heights Fire Department, Ohio Department of Transportation, Dayton Power and Light as well as the Ohio State Patrol responded to the crash.
