Fairborn breaks ground on park

FAIRBORN – As part of the Master Plan for its Parks and Recreation Division, The City of Fairborn broke ground Tuesday morning on its new Broad Street entrance to Fairfield Park.

Dr. Alicia Eckhart, superintendent of the city’s Parks and Recreation Division, said the goal of doing so includes two sides: to redirect traffic flow into the middle of Broad Street’s business district, and allow more accessibility to a major sports complex by having a centralized entrance. The park’s main entrance will soon be located between the local Remax office, 633 N. Broad St., and J Y Bamboo, 609 N. Broad St.

“Thousands of visitors attend and/or participate in sporting events within Fairfield Park each year,” Eckhart said in an email interview. “Now, they will see our local businesses, as well as be able to locate and enter the facility – a vast improvement in so many ways.”

The entrance has been in the works since 2008, but a recent $300,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Real Estate Division has made it possible for the project to physically manifest.

“Today’s ceremony was the kick-off to this great new improvement for community as a whole – the ribbon-cutting in early November will be even better,” Eckhart said.

Dr. Alicia Eckhart, superintendent of Fairborn’s Parks and Recreation Division, said the new entrance will offer multiple benefits.
