WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE — Base officials filed charges Wednesday, Dec. 16 with the United States Magistrate Court in Dayton resulting from the security breach that occurred Nov. 24 at Gate 22B.

This means the defendant, Edward J. Novak, will be arraigned after the charges are docketed and assigned to a Federal Magistrate on eight counts: federal trespassing, assault, inducing panic, making false alarms, operating a vehicle under the influence, failure to comply, fleeing and eluding and disorderly conduct.

“After reviewing all the facts and consulting with our attorneys, we felt filing these charges is in the best interest of the Air Force and the safety of all Wright-Patt employees,” said Col. John Devillier, 88th Air Base Wing and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Installation Commander.

The Government alleges Novak entered the base through Gate 22B against the instruction of entry controllers and then proceeded to enter a secure facility without authorization. He was challenged by employees and turned over to Security Forces, but not before causing a full security response that hindered operations for several hours.
