FAIRBORN — Air City Motors on East Dayton Drive is celebrating 25 years of business — 17 of which at its current location.
Owner John Zimmerman found that he had a niche for the business when he started as a salesman for Smedley’s Chevrolet. His father, Mike Zimmerman, had always ran his own businesses, leading the two to partner up and create Air City Motors.
In 1991, the dealership started with eight-to-10 vehicles in Enon where the current CVS Pharmacy is located. Eight years later, the Zimmerman’s made Fairborn Air City Motors’s new home. It carries an array of newer vehicles, but specializes in trucks and SUVs, as Zimmerman said they are popular in this area.
“We’ve had a lot of good, loyal, repeat customers that we see over the years,” John Zimmerman said. “Some of the families have bought four-to-five cars [from Air City Motors] over the years. You just build up those relationships.”
Mike Zimmerman passed away in 2013. However, John Zimmerman’s wife, Sharon, was there along the way assisting with management roles, while their two daughters helped with office duties. Dan Bago works as the dealership’s salesman, a role he has served on a full-time basis for the last 12 years.
“We’ve been happy we’ve been supported very well by everybody in the area, from Fairborn to Enon, even Xenia, all around Greene County area,” Zimmerman said.
