BEAVERCREEK — A Kentucky man was arrested near Beavercreek, Tuesday after he allegedly assaulted a city police officer following a traffic stop.

According to a police report, Vincent Lyday Jr., 26, of Covington, Ky., and Beavercreek Police Officer Tyler Fruhwirth got into a fight after Fruhwirth attempted to detain Lyday at about 10 p.m.

According to the report, Fruhwirth originally pulled Lyday over for speeding on Interstate 675 near Indian Ripple Road at the Beavercreek city limits. Fruhwirth wrote that after smelling a “heavy odor” of alcoholic beverage on Lyday’s breath, he attempted to conduct a field test, but Lyday “did not cooperate with me.”

When he tried to detain Lyday, “Vincent attempted to tackle me, and pushed me into the guardrail,” Fruhwirth wrote. “…Vincent also tried to push me towards oncoming traffic, however, I was able to resist him and keep him near the guardrail.”

Fruhwirth also added in his report that Lyday unsuccessfully attempted twice to remove his TASER from its holster. Fruhwirth wrote that he was able to get Lyday on the ground and that another officer assisted him in handcuffing the Kentucky man.

Another officer reported searching Lyday’s vehicle and finding a glass pipe with “marijuana residue” inside, as well as a bag containing marijuana and four empty beer cans.

According to court records, Lyday faces assault, OVI and driving under suspension charges in Fairborn Municipal Court.

Lyday could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
