“I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth.” (Job 19:25)

Job declares clearly the reality of the coming Messiah. He knows he is in His hands and will be safe in eternity. This verse is used at Christian funeral services to help assure those who mourn that their loved one is with the Lord. Jesus, has stood on the earth and made the way for those who follow Him.

He is the Savior of all God’s faithful people throughout all generations and will one day return to the earth again in victory over all sin and evil. There is an unwavering certainty in Job’s words that “the end” has already been determined, even though not yet realized. Job stands on solid ground.

It is the work of the Holy Spirit within the believer that brings a certainty like Job’s. It is a wonderful gift as we journey through this dangerous world. Our certainty is in the God of the universe and His Son, Jesus. It is on Him that we stand, the Rock of our Salvation, a sure Foundation. To know, like Job knew, what a blessing!

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us the knowledge, the knowing of You. Thank You for indwelling us through Your Holy Spirit and bringing us to faith in Your Son, Jesus. Thank You for keeping us in this faith and certain hope of eternal life with You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
