Xenia Christian’s Norman named Track Athlete of the Year
The U.S. Paralympic Committee selected Xenia Christian senior Grace Norman as one of 66 U.S. Paralympics Track and Field High School All-Americans last week, and named Norman its 2015 High School Female Track Athlete of the Year.
Norman was the first amputee to qualify for the state track and field championships last June and finished eighth in the mile run against a field of able-bodied athletes representing the best in Ohio.
Among the High School All-Americans, Norman has the top time in the women’s 800-meter run (2:27.88), the 1,500 (4:58.68), and she is second quickest among all women’s classes in the 400 (1:03.99).
She’s expected to be named to the U.S. Paralympic team for the Paralympic World Championships which will be held Oct. 21-31 in Doha, Qatar. Norman presently has the world’s second fastest time in the 400-meter run. She ran a time of 1:03.99 in a June meet in St. Paul, Minn.
Earlier this year at the Indy International and Fast Cow Invitational events in Indianapolis, Norman set two world records in the women’s T44 category. She broke a 10-year-old record inthe 800-meter run with a world-best time of 2:28.87, and has since topped her own mark. She also set the world mark in the 1,500 with her time of 4:58.68.
Norman is also an accomplished paratriathlete. She currently ranks fifth in the world among PT4-class paratriathletes and is the top-ranked American.

London Madison Plains 18, Greeneview 6
LONDON — Collin Matt passed for 83 yards and Greeneview’s lone touchdown, and he ran for 53 yards as well, in Saturday’s loss to Madison Plains. Jake Vallery threw two touchdown passes to John Vallery, then ran another score in to lead the Eagles to victory. Greeneview (1-1) will host East Clinton on Friday.

Carroll harriers strong in Miamisburg meet
The Carroll Cross Country team competed in the Miamisburg Invitational this past weekend. The men’s team finished in second out of 30 teams, only losing to Cincinnati Elder. The Patriots placed three runners in the top 10 with Mike Laughlin second, Karl Grossman third, and Kevin Sheedy 10th. Sam Janson, Luke Danis, Jason Dong, and Mike Ciesko also helped the Patriots to their runner-up finish.
The women’s team finished in eighth place out of 21 teams. Claire Farrell (20th) and Maria McCarty (26th) led the lady Patriots up front. Jill Giner, Paige Wright, Rachel Ollier, Rio Harrelson, and Kesla DeWall rounded out the rest of the varsity for Carroll.
The Carroll Cross Country team competes Saturday at the Mason Invitational.

Raiders win home opener
FAIRBORN — Scoreless at the half, the offense for the Wright State men’s soccer team came alive in the second half with three goals, two by Peguy Ngatcha, to defeat Cincinnati 3-0 in the home opener Monday night at Alumni Field.
The Raiders went in front to stay at the 49:11 mark in the second half as freshman midfielder Jackson Dietrich scored his first collegiate goal on an assist by junior midfielder Sam DeRoy, his second assist of the year.
Ngatcha then recorded his first goal of the night at the 52:02 mark as the junior forward scored off a pass from freshman midfielder Eric Hutton, who was credited with his first collegiate assist.
Ngatcha’s fourth goal of the season rounded out the scoring at the 80:51 mark, with the assist going to junior forward Eric Lynch, his first of the year.
Junior goalkeeper Tyler Blackmer posted his second shutout of 2015 and ninth of his career, recording five saves in the process.
WSU finished with a 15-13 shot advantage, including 6-5 on shots on goal, while each team had four corner kicks.
Wright State (3-1) travels to Eastern Illinois for a 2 p.m. match on Saturday, Sept. 12.Marauders lose opening game
PHILLIPPI, W.Va. — Justin Zepada returned an Alderson Broaddus fumble 74 yards for Central State’s first touchdown of the 2015 college football regular season, and Clim Robbins snagged an AB pass and ran it back 75 yards for the Marauders’ second score of the year, but the host Battlers earned a 22-14 win Saturday.
Alderson Broaddus running back Brandon Jones and wide receiver Cooper Schroeder combined for 242 yards of offense to lead the Battlers.
Despite the loss, Deonate Gary and E’Donovan Stewart combined for 18 tackles, three of which went for negative yardage. Dashad Tucker and Robbins combined for 10 tackles and three interceptions on the afternoon while Artrell McMillan finished with five tackles and a quarterback sack.
Central State will head south to play Clark-Atlanta next Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 pm in Atlanta.
WSU women’s soccer defeats Dayton
DAYTON — The Wright State women’s soccer team defeated crosstown rival Dayton 1-0 Sunday night at UD on a late goal by senior Natalie Sedlock.
The Raiders and Flyers were knotted the entire game until Sedlock headed in the goal from a Kalee Thompson assist at the 88:12 mark of the second half.
UD outshot WSU 27-18 while Raider goalkeeper Halle Pyle made six saves.
It was the first win for WSU in the series since defeating the Flyers 1-0 at Baujan Field on Sept. 25, 1996, ending a 12-match streak where Dayton had won 10 times with two ties.
The Raiders are now 3-2 and play at 7 p.m. tonight at Butler.
