Beavers beat the Elks

BEAVERCREEK — The Elks versus the Beavers, a classic rivalry for all sports at BHS, was the match to watch Thursday night at Beavercreek High School as the Lady Beavers volleyball team took on Centerville. The girls defeated the Elks 3-2. Scores for the match were 20-25, 25-21, 25-23, 24-26, and 15-13.

“[We are] proud of what we did and even more proud of how hard we have worked,” said sophomore Lexi Moore.

The Beavers (8-1) are on the road in their next match at 9 a.m. today at Miami East High School.

Xenia JV gets third win

XENIA — The Lady Buccaneers won their third match of the year Thursday night against West Carrollton 2-0 (25-22, 25-14). The first game Xenia (3-10) had to come from behind and the second game the Lady Buccaneers controlled all the way through.

Xenia was led by Anna Brown (13 points, 3 aces), Sarah Harner (12 points, ace), Megan Brewer (9 points, 3 aces), Alexis Adams (8 points), Heidi Alex (5 points) and defensive specialist Grace Brown (3 points).

Xenia plays Springboro at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Xenia High School.

Boys Soccer

Fairborn beats Springfield, 2-1

FAIRBORN — The Skyhawks bounced back after a tie with Miamisburg to defeat Springfield, Thursday night at Fairborn High School.

Tyler Humble scored midway through the first half on a deflected shot off the goal-keeper by Adam Knaub. Skylar Shonkwiler scored the game-winning goal after dribbling from midfield through the Springfield team and beating the keeper.

Fairborn (4-2-3) plays Lebanon at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lebanon Junior High School.

Golf

Bucs beat Fairborn 166-206

XENIA — The Xenia boys golf team defeated Fairborn in a match, Thursday at WGC in Xenia.

The top finishers for Xenia were Alex Bolka (36), Evan Adkins (40), Mason McClain (45), Travis Newell (49), Kaite Burr (50) and Riley Bowen (51).

The top finishers for Fairborn were Mark Rich (43), Trey Boedicker (55), Evan Lambalot (51), Logan Miller (57), Bruce Pico (61) and Tanner Sounders (66).

Brookville JV tops Bellbrook JV

CLAYTON — The Golden Eagle JV golf team fell to Brookville 178-204, Thursday at Moss Creek Golf Club.

The top top for finishers of the match all play for Brookville: Clayton Brooks (43), AJ Denlinger (44), Christian Berry (45) and Oscar Whitaker (46). Bellbrook’s Zach Pittman (47) rounded out the top five.

Luke Mayberry (50), Connor Merrill (51) and Aaron Schmitt (54) were the other top finishers for Bellbrook.

Boys Soccer

Rams run over Northeastern

SPRINGFIELD — The Greeneview Rams shut out Northeastern Thursday, 12-0.

The following Rams players scored in order with assists in parenthesis.

Greeneview (8-0) plays the Bucs at 3 p.m. today at Xenia High School.

Girls Soccer

Greeneview girls top Northeastern

SPRINGFIELD — The Lady Rams got a victory on the road, Thursday at Northeastern High School. Greeneview won 2-0.

Kayli Vipperman and Emily Rinehart each scored for the Rams. Sydnie Sonneman assisted both goals.

The Rams (6-2) play Xenia at 1 p.m. today at Xenia High School.

COLLEGE

Cedarville University to host 25th annual Friendship Invitational

CEDARVILLE — Cedarville University is set to host the 25th Annual Friendship Invitational on Saturday at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course.

Nearly 1,600 runners are scheduled to participate in eight races throughout the day.

The men’s college race gets the event started at 9:30 a.m. with the women’s to follow at 10:15.

Other schools scheduled to participate include Ashland, Central State, Cleveland State, Cumberlands (Ky.), Dayton, Grace, Northern Kentucky, Trevecca Nazarene, Urbana, Valparaiso, Wright State, UW-Milwaukee, and Wilberforce.

Four high school races and two middle school races will wrap up the festivities.

Admission for all fans is $7 per vehicle.
