SUGARCREEK TOWNSHIP — Residents in Sugarcreek Township will vote on a replacement levy Tuesday, Nov. 8 regarding the funding of fire and emergency medical services.
Issue 17 is a 2.9-mill levy for a continuing period of time.
If passed, the levy would place additional funding toward the continuing services. This includes the replacement of equipment, protection gear, and fire engines for fire fighters and EMS personnel.
The annual cost for homeowners with a $100,000 property value is currently $54.13. If the levy passes, the cost will be $101.50 per year.
The annual estimated proceeds toward the funding is currently $626,000, and could potentially be $988,000 with the new levy.
Township Administrator Barry Tiffany explained that the township put off the levy until the Sugarcreek-Cornerstone issues were resolved.
“Now we are ready to ask the community for their support,” Tiffany said. “This in no way funds Fire/EMS services for the Cornerstone development. This is separate from Cornerstone.”
Tiffany explained that the Cornerstone development would make payments to the township for their Fire/EMS services.
He expressed his confidence that the levy would pass, and that the residents understand the need for emergency responders, even those who have never had to use Fire/EMS services.
“This is an absoluely necessary levy for the township,” Tiffany said.
