Golden Eagles edge Rams

BELLBROOK — A big 19-10 second quarter gave host Bellbrook enough of a points differential to hold off Greeneview in a 49-43 boys basketball nonleague win, Jan. 28 at Bellbrook High School.

Caleb Scott came off the bench to lead the Golden Eagles with 17 points. Donnie Crouch also finished with double-figure scoring with 12, while Sam Shroder and Hayden Greene both finished with seven.

Greeneview’s Mason Schneider led all scorers with 19 points and a game-best 10 rebounds, Rams teammate Kollyn Brooks finished with 12 points and Nick Clevenger finished with eight.

The Rams are back in Ohio Heritage Conference action tonight, Jan. 31 when they play at South Charleston Southeastern. Bellbrook (5-9) takes on another Greene County nonleague opponent tonight, Jan. 31, when they play at Xenia. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.

Knights defeat Miami Valley

XENIA — The visiting Xenia Legacy Christian girls basketball team outscored Miami Valley in each quarter to claim an eventual 69-55 Metro Buckeye Conference win, Jan. 28.

No individual statistics were reported for Legacy Christian, which is now 12-5 overall, 3-2 in the MBC. The Knights were back in action Monday (Jan. 30) against Dayton Christian. They’ll head south to take on Middletown Christian next, at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2 in Middletown.

Stebbins blasts Xenia

RIVERSIDE — Host Stebbins High outscored visiting Xenia by a 20-4 margin in the second quarter, and the Indians rolled to an 80-48 girls basketball win Jan. 28. Mackenzie Lingg led Stebbins with a game-high 26 points.

Trinity Morton-Nooks led the Buccaneers (5-13, 3-8 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference, American South) with 23 points, while teammate Astella Welsh finished with 13. Xenia will host Kettering Fairmont for their next game at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1 at Xenia High School.

Beavers beaten in Cincy

CINCINNATI — Host Cincinnati McAuley jumped out to a 10-point lead at halftime and made it stick, Jan. 28, in a girls basketball nonleague game.

Carmen led the Beavers with 16 points, to share high scoring honors with McAuley’s Lexi Fleming. Beavercreek’s Keaira Youngblood was next with 15. Beavercreek is currently 12-5 overall, and in second place in the Greater Western Ohio Conference National East division at 7-1. They’ll play at first-place Huber Heights Wayne, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1. Beavercreek’s only divisional loss this season came at the hands of the Warriors on Dec. 10.

Bulldogs lose in fourth quarter

NORTH LEWISBURG — Visiting Yellow Springs had built up a 46-39 lead over Triad through three quarters of play, but the Bulldogs were outscored 21-9 in the final eight minutes of play for a 60-55 loss on Jan. 28.

James Browning led the Bulldogs in scoring with 18 points to go with a team-best 11 rebounds. Tony Marinelli finished with 17 points scored, and Andrew Clark was the other Yellow Springs player in double-figure scoring with 10. Yellow Springs (3-10 overall, 1-6 in the Metro Buckeye Conference) plays at Springfield Emmanuel Christian at 7 p.m. tonight, Jan. 31 in conference action.

Bellbrook jolts Jills

BELLBROOK — Bellbrook’s girls basketball team claimed a 75-23 win over Southwestern Buckeye League Southwestern division foe Oakwood, Saturday, Jan. 28. No individual statistics were available for either team. Bellbrook’s next scheduled game is Thursday, Feb. 2 when they’ll host Germantown Valley View for a 7:30 p.m. game.

Buccaneers nab road win

TROY — The visiting Xenia Buccaneers roared out to a 23-9 first-quarter lead, then held on for a 72-57 boys basketball win, Jan. 27. All five Xenia starters finished in double figures in scoring. Samari Curtis led the way with a game-high 22 points, Meechi Harris scored 13, while Kobe Hughlett, Ricky Williams and Teandre’ Adams each finished with 11. Zion Taylor led Troy with 15 points scored. Trojans teammate Zach Reichelderfer hauled in a game-high 11 rebounds in the loss.

Xenia (10-5, 6-4 Greater Western Ohio Conference American South) has a nonleague home game at 7:30 p.m. tonight, Jan. 31, against Greene County neighbor Bellbrook.

LCA wins on the road

SPRINGFIELD — Xenia Legacy Christian amassed a 32-14 lead at halftime of Friday’s Jan. 27 Metro Buckeye Conference boys basketball game, and came away with a 62-44 win over Emmanuel Christian. No individual statistics were available for Legacy Christian. The Knights are now tied with Troy Christian at 6-2 in the MBC, just one half game out of first place, which is held by Dayton Christian, LCA’s next opponent. That game is at 7 p.m. tonight, Jan. 31 at Centerville High School.

Beavers nip Elks

BEAVERCREEK — Beavercreek’s girls varsity bowling team claimed a narrow 2,251 to 2,229 win over Centerville, on Jan. 27.

Raven Cooper led the Battlin’ Beavers with a match-best 436 two-game series. Teammates Cameron Reich (369) and Emily Florkey (327) had two-game series in the 300 range, while Jenna Morgan tossed a match-best 254 game, J’Dee Sandin rolled a 178, Kaylee Fernatt turned in a 144 and Sub Score #1 tossed a 113. Beavercreek’s girls team is in first place in the Greater Western Ohio Conference’s National East division with a 9-1 overall mark, 7-1 in the division.

Beavercreek loses to Centerville

BEAVERCREEK — Michael Donahue rolled a 501 two-game series, and Beavers teammates Forrest Ewing and Cole Dorsten rolled two-game series of 442 and 427 respectively, but Greater Western Ohio Conference foe Centerville came away with a 2,603 to 2,451 boys bowling win on Jan. 27. Seth Koloski rolled a 349 two-game series, Ben Petrick tossed a 180 game and Sub Score #1 threw a 148 in Friday’s loss.

Both Beavercreek boys and girls teams next bowl at Springfield at 4 p.m. today, Jan. 31. at Victory Lanes.

Carroll wins on the road

HAMILTON — After a slow 3-point first quarter, visiting Carroll outscored the Badin Rams by a 37-25 margin the rest of the way, for a 40-35 Jan. 27 win in Greater Catholic League Co-Ed North Division action.

T.K. Robinson led Carroll in scoring with a 10-point effort from off the bench, and starter Jack Seltsam finished with nine. Patriot Eli Ramsey hauled in a game-high eight rebounds.

Badin’s Justin Pappas led all scorers with 15 points.

Carroll (7-9 overall, 1-5 GCL Co-Ed North) hosts Tipp City Bethel for a nonleague game tonight, Jan. 21, at 7:30 p.m.

Fairborn rolls over Greenville

FAIRBORN — Branden Lilley scored 22 points, Omar Inman tossed in 13, while Skyhawk teammates Jarod Bodekor and Shaunn Monroe scored 10 each in a Jan. 27 boys basketball win over Greenville.

Fairborn, winner of six of its last seven games, improves to 9-7 overall, 7-3 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference’s American South. The Skyhawks will host American South leader Trotwood Madison at 7:30 p.m. tonight, Jan. 31.

Upcoming events

Rowing indoor program starts Wednesday

DAYTON — The Dayton Boat Club is offering a two-month indoor rowing program this winter for adults looking to burn calories, build strength and endurance, meet new friends, and learn the mechanics of the sport of rowing from professional coaches and experienced rowers.

The program starts with two sessions of instruction 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, and 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Downtown Dayton YMCA, 316 N. Wilkinson St. To register or to request more information, fill out the online form at daytonboatclub.org/adult-winter-erging.html.

JYSB registration under way

JAMESTOWN — The Jamestown Youth Softball and Baseball organization will hold registration opportunities for the upcoming 2017 season from Jan. 11 through Feb. 15 for all leagues. A new division, Ram-Ball, will be offered as a way to create interest in baseball and softball for youngsters ages 3 and 4. Late registration will run through March 3, but includes an additional late fee.

Costs are as follows: Ram-Ball (co-ed, ages 3-4) $35; T-Ball (co-ed ages 5-6) $75; 8U Coach Pitch (ages 7-8), 10U (ages 9-10), 12U (ages 11-12), and 15U (separate from OHSAA, season begins after the high school season ends) $75.
