XENIA — The Old Town Trade Fair is planning for its annual appearance at the Greene County Fairgrounds on Saturday, March 4, and Sunday, March 5.

The Old Town Trade Fair is a 1700s- to 1890s-themed fair that frequents Greene County once a year, complete with period-accurate clothing and apparel, demonstrations of the equipment used in that time period, and vendors selling all kinds of memorabilia suitable for the era. A favorite for locals and history buffs in Greene County, the fair is getting ready for another busy event and invites everyone to visit.

There will be approximately 150 different tables to walk around at the fairgrounds from a variety of different organizations and individuals specializing in early American craftmanship. Crafts include blacksmithing, pottery, fabrics, clothing, and even broom making.

Sharon Milligan is the event organizer for this years fair, and she has been chairing the event along with her husband, Tim, for 22 years.

“We’ve got a broom maker,” said Milligan, mentioning the new attractions guests can expect this year. Some of the demonstrations will also include making baskets, soaps and early flintlock engravings.

These demonstrations will couple with vendors looking to sell or, in some cases, trade their early American wares. The National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association (NMLRA) will have tables set up to demonstrate how early Americans used old-fashioned rifles and give guests a close-up experience unique to the Old Town Trade Fair.

The main attraction at the fair is the long line of vendors, and for good reason. Raccoon, deer, and even buffalo hide will all be for sale at the event along with hats, books, tomahawks, and old-styled jewelry from specialized organizations. There will also be food trucks set up serving a variety of foods while guests walk around the many tables set up around the fairgrounds.

Penny Wayne from Kentucky Leather and Hide, as well as Mike Eder from Flintlock LLC are just a couple specialists who will have venues set up at the event. Organizations like George Rodgers Clark Park and Grassy Run, among others, will also be set up.

Admission is $4 for adults over 12, and include an automatic registration for the hourly raffle that will be announced throughout each day. Along with the hourly giveaway, there will also be one lucky guest that will win a grand prize each of the two fair days.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 4, and 9 a.m to 3 p.m. on March 5. For more information call Milligan at 937-857-9745.
