Xenia to begin storm cleanup on Monday

XENIA — The City of Xenia announced cleanup efforts from Friday and Saturday’s storm damage will begin on Monday morning for some portions of the city.

Ankeney Mill Road between the intersections of Florence Street and King Street will be closed until further notice. Several downed trees and power lines are blocking roads.

As of early Saturday afternoon, power had been restored to the majority of traffic lights in the city. The area of Second Street and Allison Road remained without power with stop signs still present to help control the flow of traffic.

City officials in its storm damage update stated the Monday cleanup efforts will have workers only be in each neighborhood one time, and they urge residents to have all damage placed in devil strips so it can be removed.

Most of Xenia’s primary roads appeared to be accessible as of 2 p.m. on Saturday. North Detroit Street has cones and vehicles blocking and funneling the northbound lane to safely move around a large tree down near the curb between Wilson Drive and Kay’s Way.

AES Ohio is showing just over 10,000 customers in Greene County are reporting to be without power, as of 2 p.m., including what appears to be several thousands in the Xenia and Xenia Township. Workers have been spotted in the area assessing and repairing power lines. No timetable has been provided from AES Ohio or the City of Xenia as to when repair work may be completed for specific areas.

The National Weather Service in Wilmington reported nearly two inches of rain and winds gusting up to 56 miles per hour were recorded on Friday.
