Storm cleanup continues in Xenia

0

XENIA — The City of Xenia is responding to the severe weather that recently impacted the community, causing significant damage and disruption.

Cleanup efforts are beginning today, and the city asks residents to remain vigilant and supportive of crews as they work to restore safety and order to the roads, sidewalks, and public spaces.

Throughout the week, city crews will focus on cleaning right-of-way and public property to ensure public safety.

”We urge residents to be mindful of the crews in the area,” the city said in a release. “Please do not drive around road closure signs, as there are still downed power lines that pose serious risks. Driving over these lines endangers not only your safety but also that of others. Additionally, please be cautious while moving around your property and out on the roads. The recent heavy rain and winds may have compromised the integrity of trees and root systems, making them unstable.”

Hill Street between South Detroit and South Monroe remains closed as of Oct. 1. Temporary road closures will be occurring as clean-up efforts continue.

Official neighborhood cleanup scheduled

Official neighborhood cleanups will begin at 7 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7. This time frame allows private property owners additional time to gather tree limbs and debris for pickup. All items must be placed at the curb — not in the street — as crews will only make one pass. Items should be set out the night before the scheduled pickup to avoid missing the service.

Important restrictions:

— No professionally cut trees or limbs will be accepted during the city’s curbside pickup. Those hired for tree removal are responsible for disposing of their debris.

— Keep brush piles separate from leaf piles.

— Follow standards for brush piles: Eight feet long and 10 inches in diameter.

Greene County Environmental Services

For residents who wish to dispose of debris themselves, Greene County Environmental Services accepts storm debris. It is located at 2145 Greene Way Blvd., Xenia. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Materials accepted:

— Leaves, grass and brush.

— Brush up to 8 feet long and 4 inches in diameter.

— Brush more than four inches in diameter must be cut to firewood length.

Materials not accepted include stumps, apples, nuts, dirt, or sod.
