Hillside growing and changing

XENIA — The Hillside Assisted Living building, located at 130 and 140 Rogers St. is rich in local history.

It was first used as the site for McClellan Hospital before Greene Memorial was built, and became the home of Medical Associates building.

The current owners, Jim and Marylou Preston, were hired as a Cedarville couple to run the eight resident retirement home and moved into the attached manager’s apartment with their two young daughters in 1985.

Living on-site led the Preston’s to create a homelike atmosphere treating both residents and staff like family. When the Hendrickson and Schmitt families were willing to sell, the Prestons were offered the opportunity to buy the assisted living business in 1991, and later the building and property in 1996.

Over the years, they have grown Hillside into a thriving residential care community licensed for up to 35 beds with contracts from both Medicaid and the Veterans Administration.

The past two years have seen numerous updates including a new management and care team that have led the way in increasing activities and overall resident satisfaction.

To assist residents financially, Hillside offers all-inclusive rates, no community fee, and no private pay waiting period for Medicaid Waivers. Residents enjoy private rooms, home cooked meals, 24 hour staffing and on-call nursing, activities, transportation, financial and medication management, as well as personal care, laundry, and housekeeping services.

Recently Mr. Preston was recognized by the Ohio Assisted Living Association this past September as the 2016 Administrator of the Year Award.

The administration always loves the opportunity to speak with the community, whether providers or potential residents, and invite anyone interested to call 937-376-2691 to schedule a tour, or go to welcometohillside.com for more information.
