My secret stash of treats

Psalm 119:116 “Sustain me according to Your word that I may live. And do not let me be ashamed of my hope.”

I am going to let you in on a secret.

For days when I am craving sweets I keep a hidden stash of my favorite sugary treats tucked away in easy reach! Shhh!!

I am not going to tell you where they are because then they will disappear before I can eat them. Nevertheless, these sweet morsels are there for when I feel the need for something delicious.

But you are in luck. I have something else stashed away for other days. These I will gladly share. Deep within my memory I have some go-to Bible verses that come in handy depending on what frame of mind I am in.

When I feel incapable: Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me.”

When I feel discouraged: 1 Corinthians 15:58 “Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.”

When I feel overly ambitious: Jeremiah 45:5 “But you, are you seeking great things for yourself? Do not seek them.”

When I feel lazy: Matthew 26:41 “Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation…”

When I feel unknowledgeable: Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to me and I will answer you and I will tell you great and mighty things which you do not know.”

When I feel tired: Isaiah 40:29 “He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power.”

The Psalmist also recognized the importance of having God’s Word nearby. He asked God to sustain him with His word during difficult times. He knew that this was the only way he would be able to live a successful and blessed life. By having these words available at a moment’s notice, the writer’s hope would be focused on God and he would not have to be ashamed.

I am still not going to share the hiding place for my secret stash of candy. But I would love to share my go-to Bible verses – or maybe you would like to develop your own stash. They are perfect to sustain you through any circumstance. Keep them within easy reach so you will have them when you need them. – Love Mama
