Supreme Court justice to speak in Xenia

XENIA — The Hon. Sharon Kennedy, justice of the Ohio Supreme Court, will be the guest speaker at the Tuesday, Oct. 9 meeting of the Xenia Women’s Republican Club.

Kennedy is a native of Hamilton and is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati and the UC School of Law. She served as a police officer before setting up a private law practice in her hometown. She was special counsel for former Ohio Attorney General Betty Montgomery and was elected to the Butler County Court of Common Pleas Domestic Relations Division, where she served as administrative judge.

Kennedy was known for ensuring the timely resolutions of cases for families and children. She worked to create a Butler County-wide advisory committee to the Budget Work Group, bringing elected officials and the private sector together to implement cost-saving measures. She first served the Ohio Supreme Court in 2012 to fill an unexpired term and was elected as the ninth woman to serve in 2014, winning all 88 counties and 73 percent of the vote. Kennedy has been the recipient of numerous awards including the University of Cincinnati College of Law Nicholas Longworth III Alumni Achievement Award.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Greene County Republican Headquarters, 45 East Main St. The public is welcome to meet Kennedy and hear her program about the Ohio Supreme Court. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call 937-371-2134.
