XENIA — Greene County Commissioners have proclaimed August to be Child Support Awareness Month in Greene County and as part of that awareness effort, local officials are inviting the community to wear green on Wednesday.

According to a release from the Greene County Department of Job & Family Services, Ohio’s child support program impacts more children than any other public program in Ohio except education. One in three children is affected by Ohio’s child support program, approximately one million children. Locally, the Greene County Child Support Enforcement Agency (CSEA) collects child support for children living in Greene County.

Greene County CSEA serves more than 14,000 children and collects more than $27 million per year, and impacts one in four residents. The agency works closely with the Greene County Prosecuting Attorney, Juvenile Court, Domestic Relations Court and the Clerk of Courts to meet the requirements of the child support program. The CSEA also works with the local Fatherhood Initiative Program to further improve the lives of children in Greene County.

Greene County’s CSEA provides many services, which include collecting child support for families, establishing the legal relationship between children and their parents, and enforcing court orders and health insurance coverage.

“It’s a huge undertaking, but it’s worth the effort,” said Monica Talkington, administrator of Greene County’s child support program. “Child support is a very positive way for parents to work together to focus on the healthy development of their child.”
