A.C. Strings, Fairborn Civic Band to perform

FAIRBORN — Summer A.C. Strings and the Fairborn Civic Band are joining forces to provide entertainment to the community during two scheduled performances to take place this month.

The first will take place 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 at the Fairborn Sweet Corn Festival and 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27 at Abiding Christ Lutheran Church (ACLC) on Dayton Yellow Springs Road.

Together, the A.C. Strings and Fairborn Civic Band form the Fairborn Regional Orchestra (FRO).

However, the Fairborn Civic Band alone will continue to perform at noon at the Sweet Corn Festival.

The concerts will feature up-beat and pop music, including the music of Peter, Paul and Mary, the Doors, Lady Gaga and The Beatles.

A.C. Strings is comprised of string players ranging in age, but performers could be as young as 9 years old. They are from all around the Dayton area. Kathy Johnston started the A.C. Strings in 1997. Dr. Phillipa Burgess joined her in 2012 to share conducting duties.

The group very exciting in 2014 when the Fairborn Civic Band, under the direction of Gary C. Johnson, joined the A.C. Strings to form FRO.

A.C. Strings encourages any note-reading string player to join. They rehearse all summer at the Abiding Christ Lutheran Church on Mondays and occasional Thursday evenings for a modest fee. Registration forms can be found each April/May at most area music stores, local school orchestras, many local string teachers and at ACLC.
