Deputies asking for help in identifying human remains

XENIA — The Greene County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying human remains found south of Xenia earlier this year.

The woman’s remains, which were discovered May 1 near Elam Road in Spring Valley Township, “may have been exposed to the elements for a period of at least three months, but no more than a year according to the forensic anthropologist,” a press release from the sheriff’s office stated Thursday.

The woman is described as Caucasian, 25-50 years old, between 5-feet-5-inches and 5-feet-10-inches tall, and as wearing a white tank top, a white bra, and black pants with a pink stripe up the leg with a pink heart on the left thigh area with the word “Babe” printed on the heart.

The skeletal remains, which were reportedly found by an individual who was hunting for mushrooms in the woods, were not found intact, Sheriff Gene Fischer said. DNA testing of those remains matched no known missing individuals, according to Greene County Sheriff’s Detective Kyle Metz.

“Our hopes were initially that we would have the anthropologist review the remains, gain a profile, have DNA testing completed and hope for a DNA match, but since we have no DNA match at this point, we’re going to need the public’s assistance in hopefully giving us tips that will identify the person,” Metz said.

According to Metz, the anthropologist’s findings indicated that the woman was “possibly” a mother at some point in her life.

Anyone with relevant information should contact Metz at 937-562-4810. Callers can remain anonymous by calling the tip line at 937-562-4819 or through the office’s Mobile Patrol smartphone app.
