YELLOW SPRINGS — The Yellow Springs Kids Playhouse (YSKP) is presenting its inaugural “Arts for All” performance, as well as “The Farm” later this month at Antioch Amphitheater.

Its “Arts for All” performance is inspired by the Autism Theatre Initiative in New York, and is geared for those on the autism spectrum. The performance will include special educators on site to help audience members navigate the experience of live performance, calming centers for individuals who need a break and fidget toys availability for busy hands.

It will take place on Friday, July 24 beginning at 7:30 p.m. This production is supported in part by Wagner Subaru and the Yellow Springs Human Relations Commission. “The Farm” will be YSKP’s 21 original musical, and utilizes masks, puppets, music and innovative props to emphasize farm and land conservation. The performance is sponsored in part by a $10,000 award by the National Endowment for the Arts, and several grants from the Ohio Arts Council. The performance is directed by Yellow Springs Kids Playhouse’s Managing Artistic Director Ara G. Beal, and was written by Joan Sand. The Farm is inspired by Orwell’s Animal Farm and the 1999 auction Whitehall Farm, located outside of Yellow Springs.

Within the performance, audience members watch and see if the wild animals, farm animals and human kids can work together to save their beloved farm from developers. The production is described as “steampunk-styled” and will feature human characters played by puppets, animal characters played by actors, in addition to full-sized bulldozers and tractors made out of recycled materials.

Performances for “The Farm” take place on July 16 through 19, and July 23 through 26 beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the Antioch Area Amphitheater, located at 920 Corry Street in Yellow Springs.
