XENIA — An inmate fell from a third story window of the Greene County Jail in the early hours of the morning July 6, according to Greene County Sheriff Gene Fischer.

A release from the sheriff’s office said a City of Xenia employee reported to jail employees at 2:38 a.m. that an inmate was lying on the sidewalk outside of the jail facility.

The inmate was determined to be Bryan Goney, 38, who had been assigned to an isolation cell on the third floor of the 48-year-old jail. According to the release, it appears that Goney broke the glass of a cell window, climbed out of the window and fell to the ground.

Goney was transported to a local hospital for the treatment of multiple fractures.

Preliminary information indicates a jail employee had contact with Goney at 2:20 a.m. during a routine cell check.

A Greene County jury found Goney guilty in April of robbery, kidnapping and abduction.

Goney was arrested in November 2016 as a suspect in a robbery that occurred at the Circle K on East Dayton Yellow Springs Road in Fairborn.

He was awaiting final sentencing in the jail at the time of the incident. A sentencing hearing was set for Goney in June, but was continued to another date when Judge Michael Buckwalter determined more time was needed for the case. The state attempted to prove at the hearing that Goney was a repeat violent offender.

A new investigation is being conducted for possible escape charges.
