XENIA — A challenger ousted an incumbent in the New Jasper Township Trustee race by just two votes, confirmed in a recount by the Greene County Board of Elections.

Three weeks after Election Day, Lisa Townsend officially earned the title of trustee. Incumbent Mike Rasey fell short of the newcomer’s 236 votes with his 234.

The Board of Elections finished the count in the afternoon Nov. 29 and certified the results the next morning. An automatic recount is triggered when the difference in a race is one half of one percent or less. On election night, unofficial final results showed the two in a tie, each receiving 234 votes.

Mike Horsley, incumbent, earned the other spot with 473 votes, or 50.16 percent of the vote.

In another close race that has now been confirmed by the board of elections, Cedar Cliff Board of Education write-in candidate Maria Waymire led write-in candidate Kyle Miller 244 to 225. In the unofficial count, Waymire was leading by just seven.

Two incumbents claimed the other spots, Gail Martindale officially with 732 votes and Christopher Cross following with 677. Martindale was the front-runner with 38.94 percent of the vote.
