Xenia inducts new NHS members

XENIA — The Xenia High School chapter of National Honor Society inducted 25 new members during a ceremony Dec. 7.

The inductees were selected for membership based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership and service.

Inducted were: Heidi Alex, Peyton Bartley, Grace Brown, Molly Byrd, Emily Crossley, Saphron Cummins, Adja Diagne, Blayne Dudley, Abbie Dukes, Alex Dye, Alexandria Fellie, Asina Marietta, Megan Miller, Claire Moore, Lorean Napper, Micah Neeld, Caroline Prindle, Christian Severt, Carsyn Siefert, Abigail Sparkman, Samantha Steward, Jacob Stickle, Jeanyene Szwec, Hannah Wilcox, and Gabriel Wilson.

The ceremony featured several NHS traditions, including a candle ceremony, the granting of membership cards, and the recognition of seniors. Students and their guests also heard from guest speakers Michael Jubara, XHS chemistry instructor, XHS Principal Dr. Henry Jackoby, and Superintendent Dr. Gabriel Lofton. In addition to the guest speakers, the executive board spoke about the meaning of the pillars of NHS. Speakers included President Micah Adams, VIce President Mia Cornett, Secretary Aliyah Jones, Treasurer Austin Rogers, and Sergeant of Arms Hasan Akinyele.

Prior to the induction, a performance by the jazz band was led by Greg Sell. Members of the band include: Carlynn Jones, Samuel Johnson, Maddie Author, Jacob Wynn, Mark Johnson, Alan Fig, Cameron McCoy, Amanda Tolle, Jillian Tedrick, Faith Cornett, and Liam Deis.
