MAD RIVER TOWNSHIP – The Clark County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the Emergency Room and the Springfield Regional Medical Center around 6:55 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015 in regards to a 17-year-old male that arrived at their facility with a gunshot wound to the chest.

When deputies arrived on scene, they found that the juvenile had been shot in his residence on Laura Lane. Investigators from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office responded to the hospital and also to the Laura Lane address and processed the scenes for evidence, and found that the shooting appeared to be accidental.

After speaking with the victim, the shooter and a witness, it was determined that the incident was, in fact, accidental. It was found that the 19-year-old shooter believed the firearm was unloaded and “dry fired” it. The victim was treated at Springfield Regional Medical Center and then transferred to Miami Valley Hospital, where he is in stable condition.
