Casey’s confirms it’s coming to Xenia

XENIA — An Iowa-based retailer confirmed June 11 that it will open a store in Xenia.

Sam Knezevic, a financial analyst with Casey’s General Store, said that the company is under contract to purchase land currently owned by the Wickline family on the southeast side of Kinsey and US Route 68 North.

Because negotiations are still ongoing, he declined to give to many details. But Knezevic said if all goes well a store could be up and running sometime in 2019. Casey’s has filed for liquor permits with the state of Ohio for a business to be located at 1615 N. Detroit St., according to state records.

Knezevic called the project in the “very early” stages and said anytime a company is dealing with construction and permitting with a city and state delays could happen. The stores, which ranged between 3,500 and 4,500 square feet, usually have a four to six month construction time frame but there is no date set yet for construction.

Based in suburban Des Moines, Casey’s is part gas station, part restaurant and part grocery store.

Casey’s normally operates in communities with populations of 5,000 or less but over the last two to three years has begun to expand into bigger markets with success, according to Knezevic. He said Casey’s has and will continue to look to expand in western Ohio, especially north of Interstate 70.
