XENIA — Did you have immigrant ancestors? Most of us did, if you can find them.

Jennifer Alford will present “We’re Here in America, Now What?” 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Xenia Library for the Greene County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society.

Your immigrant ancestors came to America with their hopes and little money. While some families arrived with relatives or friends that had already settled in the area, many were facing a world that was quite foreign to them. Ms Alford will present information about Immigrant Assistance Organizations that guided them to a job, residence, and more. We’ll also discuss immigrant newspapers and their role in strengthening the immigrant communities.

Jennifer Alford, PE, PTOE, is a Traffic Engineer by day and a genealogy professional and lecturer by night. Her work includes a specialty in Jewish research, publishing, and teaching others. Alford serves as newsletter editor for the Indiana Genealogical Society.
