SPRING VALLEY — Incumbent Lori Carroll was elected Nov. 6 to serve as the mayor of Spring Valley.

According to the Greene County Board of elections unofficial vote totals, Carroll received 116 votes, or 64 percent while her opponent Philip Achtermann received 63 votes or 35 percent.

Carroll was president of Spring Valley Council before being appointed to serve as mayor in January 2018 when the former mayor decided to step down. She had to run in the November 2018 to be elected to the position. She grew up in the area, but has lived in the village with her husband for about 45 years. The couple has been married for 42 years and have raised three children together, who still live nearby.

“It feels great,” she said the day after being elected. “Thank you (to the citizens who) voted me in.”

Her plans as mayor moving forward including “getting the streets done” — by eliminating potholes and adding more sidewalks. Carroll added that a new water tower for the village is in the works.

In her candidate bio sent to the Xenia Daily Gazette, she said she has served on Spring Valley Council for the last four years. She has also been involved in the Spring Valley Lions Club for 10 years, and president of the organization for five. Her bio also said she has served as a volunteer firefighter for the Spring Valley Fire Department.
