XENIA — The Greene County FFA Alumni held their annual Christmas Party on November 20, 2019 at the Greene County Fairgrounds. It was a nice evening full of recognition of the year long events, accomplishments, guest speakers, and our annual raffle.

The evening began with a good meal catered by Famous Recipe that was funded by the Greene County FFA Alumni. Next, President Bob King highlighted the yearly events. Some of those events include Pedal Tractor Pulls, the Consignment Auction, the Farm Toy Show, our scholarship, our annual Christmas Fundraiser for local children, Lifetime Achievement Winners, and our annual Raffle to Fundraise.

This year we held 8 Pedal Tractor Pulls throughout Greene and surrounding counties at local festivals. We have a lot of children that come and compete by riding a pedal tractor pulling a weighted sled as far as they can pedal. The distance is measured and tracked for each child and tabulated for a grand total for a Class Winner of each class. This year’s winners are:

Class 1: Lainy Stewart Class 2: Tie of Gunner Rogers and Mason Zurface Class 3: Blake Atley Class 4: Lola Smith Class 5: Otis Boyette Class 6: No winner as we did not have any repeat pullers in this class.

In attendance, we had many FFA Members and Officers along with their Instructors from each of our local chapters in Greene County. Each of the instructors gave us a quick report about events and happenings at their school and in their chapter. Our Greene County FFA Instructors include: Jacob Wuebben – Xenia High School ; Sara Landis – Cedarville High School ; Doug Wickline – Greenview High School ; Mike Spahr – Greene County Career Center ; Dr. Kelly Rickabaugh DVM – Greene County Career Center Equine Program.

We would also like to recognize the 2019 Scholarship Winners that were awarded in the spring. 5 Scholarships were awarded to: Grace Smith of Cedarville High School; Tyler Morris of Greenview High School; Nick Shaw of Greenview High School; Janeen Stover of Greene County Career Center; and Ashly Howard of Greene County Career Center. Congrats to those students and we wish them well in their continued education. If you are a student and interested in learning more about our scholarship, please reach out to your FFA Advisor for more information.

We recognized our local Greene County Sheriff Gene Fischer for all his support with our events. He helps to provide security at our consignment auction as well as provides a Sheriff escort for our annual FFA Tractor Drive In Day. He announced a new 4-H club coming soon for Ham Radio Operators. Thank You for all your support of our Greene County Youth!!

We would like to show our sincere gratitude to the Greene County Fairboard for their continued support each year with the use of the Fairgrounds and the buildings for our events including the Farm Toy Show coming up on February 23, 2020 and our Annual Consignment Auction on March 14, 2020. These 2 events are major fundraisers for our organization to help fund our scholarship as well as our Christmas support of local families and children in need.

The Greene County FFA Alumni is very active in supporting our youth throughout the county not just those involved in the FFA. This year we supported the Greene County Youth Activity Fund and also the Greene County Jr. Fair Livestock Auction. For Christmas, with the help of Carol Knox, a volunteer who works with Jamestown area churches, our monetary donation will support 90 children with gifts for Christmas. This is a community outreach program we love being a part of. This year at our Christmas Party, we also held a Toy Drive to support Children’s Hospital. We also supported the FRABAAA, the First Responders and Bikers Advocating Against Abuse, with a monetary donation.

We held our annual election and all current officers will be continuing their positions. The 2020 Greene County FFA Alumni Officers are: President: Bob King Vice President: Clint Miller Secretary: Jessica Miller Treasurer: Doug Middleton Reporter: Dan Robinette

The 2019 FFA Alumni Lifetime Membership Winners were also announced. Congratulations to Tim Kerns and his wife Karen.

Our final event of the evening was our Annual Raffle Drawing. Throughout the year, the Greene County FFA Alumni sell raffle tickets to win prizes that have all been donated to our organization. This is a good fundraiser for us each year and helps us to support the youth of Greene County. We would like to give a heartfelt Thanks to all those who donated a prize this year!

Thanks to all our supporters for another great year with the Greene County FFA Alumni. We are always accepting new members and anyone can join. Dues are just $20 per year. For more information, please look us up on Facebook under Greene County FFA Alumni.
