FAIRBORN — Local officials recently dedicated an access road to decrease traffic congestion at special events at Hobson Freedom Park in Fairborn. The 3,500 feet of roadway is located at the back of park site with traffic exiting onto Linebaugh Road.

Hobson Freedom Park is primarily a venue for athletic tournaments and has hosted past competitions including the Haunted Classic, Tornado Tournament and Warrior Classic.

The project was initiated when Greene County Commissioners approached Cemex about putting a roadway through the company’s property to access the park site. Cemex agreed with the plan, managed the project and contributed $50,000 to the $100,000 project.

“The new roadway will decrease the traffic issues we experience on Trebein Road during tournaments and improve the traffic within Hobson Freedom Park,” Greene County Commissioner Tom Koogler said. “This project is a wonderful example of a public and private partnership that truly does benefit everyone.”

The roadway is located adjacent to a prairie and wetlands that had been previously restored by Cemex.

“Cemex is committed to protecting the natural resources that Greene County offers throughout its communities,” Cemex/Fairborn Quality Control Manager Rusty Strader said. “By working with the Greene County Board of County Commissioners and Greene County Parks & Trails, Cemex can fulfill its mission of being both good stewards of the land and a strong community partner.”

The new roadway will only be open during athletic tournaments at the park.
