Candidates, issues filed for March primary

XENIA — Candidates and issues that could appear on ballots in Greene County in the March primary election have been filed with the Greene County Board of Elections. Local candidates and issues will be certified by the board Dec. 22.

CANDIDATES

Seven candidates, all Republicans, have filed to run for two seats on the Board of Greene County Commissioners. Five individuals have filed to run for incumbent Bob Glaser’s seat on the board: Glaser, current Bellbrook Mayor Bob Baird, local business owner Ronald Geyer, current Beavercreek Mayor Brian Jarvis and former Greene County Administrator Howard Poston.

Two individuals have filed to run for incumbent Tom Koogler’s seat on the board: Koogler and former Sugarcreek Township Trustee Dick King.

No Democrats filed to run for either seat on the board, which means that the winner of each race would run unopposed in the November 2016 election.

Several other current elected officials, all Republican, filed for the primary with no opposition: Greene County Recorder Eric Sears, Greene County Engineer Bob Geyer, Greene County Treasurer Dick Gould, Greene County Sheriff Gene Fischer, Greene County Prosecutor Stephen Haller, Greene County Coroner Kevin Sharrett, Greene County Common Pleas Judge Michael Buckwalter, Greene County Common Pleas Juvenile Judge Adolfo Tornichio, Greene County Clerk of Courts Terri Mazur.

QUESTIONS AND ISSUES

Beavercreek City has a streets, roads and bridges renewal levy – 2.6 mills and increase of .8 mills (total of 3.4 mills), five years.

Fairborn City School District will propose an emergency renewal levy of 8.5 mills, five years.

Fairborn City will ask voters to approve a renewal police services levy of 4.4 mills, five years.

Fairborn City will proposed a renewal fire/EMS levy of 4.4 mills, five years.

Fairborn City also has a referendum on Ordinance 32-15 (CEMEX rezoning) on the ballot.

Silvercreek Township has an additional general operating expenses levy, 1 mill, five years.

Sugarcreek Township Fire District has an additional fire services levy 5.3 mills, five years.

Xenia Community City School District is asking voters to renew a permanent improvements levy of 1.3 mills, five years.

Xenia Township is asking voters to renew a streets, roads and bridges levy of .9 mills, five years

Yellow Springs Village has a renewal levy for current expenses of 8.4 mills, five years.

Voters will go to the polls on March 15 to answer these proposed items onthe ballot.
