WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE – The Great Wright Brothers Aero Carnival is coming to Huffman Prairie Flying Field from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12. The event is free and open to all using Gate 16A off of State Route 444.

There will be a number of activities for all ages. There will be several airplanes on display, a glider, hot air balloons and hay rides. A parachute landing is also being planned. There will be a flight simulator, a silent era movie on flight, bouncy houses and sheep herding demonstrations. There will be displays from the Bicycle Museum of America and the Academy of Model Aeronautics, along with a number of local organizations and historical societies.

Huffman Prairie Flying Field is where Wilbur and Orville Wright learned to control their powered machine in the sky during 1904 and 1905. It is where the Wright Company established one of the first permanent schools to teach others how to fly. The Aero Carnival celebrates the work of the Wright brothers and provides a unique way to explore part of the region’s history. The Great Wright Brothers Aero Carnival also serves as the kick-off of celebrations in Dayton marking the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the National Park Service in 1916.
