Matthew 7:7a “Ask and it will be given to you …”
Where do you like to shop?
Everyone has a different store of choice depending on what they are looking for. Around here I shop Kroger or Aldis for groceries, Kohl’s for clothing, Xenia Shoe & Leather for shoes, and Amazon for just about everything else. But it recently occurred to me that some of you like to shop in an unconventional way.
“Mama, do you have any extra cans of soup, and maybe some toilet paper? What about extra makeup like mascara? How about an unneeded pot or pan? I could sure use one of those.”
Yes, I have found that you kids sometimes like to come here at home to shop. I know that you are all just starting out on your own, and Dad and I have more resources at this time in our lives. So in a pinch we want to help as much as we can. If a pan, an extra pot, or can of soup here and there lightens the load, then come on over with your shopping bag.
It is interesting to me that children usually have no problem asking their parents when they need something. But we as Christians usually wait until we are desperate to ask our heavenly Father for things we need.
This is too bad because, unlike Dad and me, God has an unlimited supply of everything we could possibly ever need. His shelves are stocked with rest for the weary, freedom for the prisoner, comfort for the broken-hearted, food and clothing for the poor, friendship for the lonely, shelter for the homeless, wisdom for the confused, and so much more! Yet instead of asking we choose to try to supply these needs from all the wrong places.
Some feel they have all the essentials they need within themselves. They believe they can tough it out, work hard, and pull themselves up by their own bootstraps. Others go shopping in places that have inferior merchandise or mislabeled goods, and these discounted items never fulfill the desired results. All the while perfect and quality necessities of life are lying unused in God’s heavenly warehouse awaiting those who will just ask for them.
There is going to come a day very soon when you will all land good jobs and be able to financially provide for yourselves. You will not find it necessary to go shopping at Mama’s anymore. But if you are wise you will never stop shopping at the best place ever! It’s not Kroger! It’s not Kohl’s. It’s not Amazon!
Your heavenly Father has a lifetime supply of every resource you will ever need for living life successfully on this earth. It’s all there for the taking 24/7! So what are you waiting for? Grab your shopping bag, get down on your knees, and just ask! — Love, Mama
