Israeli Capital: Jerusalem

0

The 1995 Congress, led by Speaker Newt Gingrich and Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole passed a resolution recognizing Jerusalem as the Capital of Israel. This was an acknowledgement and recognition of historical fact of 10,000 years of reality re: The Jewish homeland and the functional status then and now.

There was no uproar, wailing and gnashing of teeth at the time of this action by the US Congress in 1995. Until now, no American president – Clinton, Bush 43 nor Obama saw fit to take a position on this issue. Just as he has done in other areas of US policy, President Donald Trump has taken a stance. He is advocating a two-state concept in an attempt to provide an opportunity for resolution of the Palestinian/Israeli conflict by giving both sides a workable arrangement upon which to establish peace, stability and a civilized future for that region of the Mideast.

No to be trite, but, “It takes two to Tango.” If only one party is amenable to begin a valid, realistic peace process and the other prefers misery and conflict, therein lies the problem.

Each time Israel is attached by terrorists of whatever stripe and then defend itself to nullify the capabilities of her attackers to wreak havoc, Israel is painted as the aggressor/warmonger.

America declares our right and our duty to defend ourselves. So do all legitimate nations, so why should Israel be portrayed otherwise?

Peace and stability require constant, consistent and dedicated effort to achieve and ensure their continuance. Ronald Reagan always had two fundamental rock solid principles from which he never wavered: “Peace through strength” and “trust but verify.” Visionary and brilliant in 1981-1989 and valid in 2017-18 more than ever. Opposition for that attitude alone is morally bankrupt, inherently dangerous and stupid!

To both Democrats and Republicans – listen up and shape up. Remember you work for us, not the other way around.

May peace prevail throughout the world. Merry Christmas and God Bless America.
