CINCINNATI — The Greeneview Rams had trouble stopping the balanced attack of Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy in a 41-22 season-opening football loss on Friday, Aug. 26.

The Eagles led throughout and had 208 rushing yards and 285 passing yards, averaging 8.5 yards per play. The Rams, meanwhile, had 260 total yards — 67 rushing and 193 passing. To the Rams credit they had one possession last just one play resulting in a touchdown and had another where they didn’t run a play, thanks to a 100-yard kickoff return by Collin Wilson.

Wilson’s TD cut the CHCA lead to 27-14 early in the fourth quarter. But the Eagles scored 14 straight points to take a 41-14 lead before the Rams scored with 26 seconds left.

QB Collin Matt completed 6 of 13 passes and had a touchdown and an interception. He also ran the ball 11 times for 45 yards and the game’s final touchdown. Jacob Green led the Rams rushing attack with 109 yards on 26 carries. Griffin Mangan carried six times for 39 yards.

Ian Tamplin caught four passes for 54 yards, including a 38-yard TD, while Mangan had one catch for 12 yards and Wilson had a catch for one yard.

The Eagles scored late in the first quarter and then early in the third quarter to take a 14-0 lead. Greeneview’s Matt hooked up with Tamplin to cut the score to 14-7 midway through the third. The Eagles added two more touchdowns before Wilson’s kick return.

Defensively Austin Roberts had 10 tackles, while Tyler Robinette added nine, Isaiah Harding eight and Wilson seven.

In other area high school football games last weekend: Carroll defeated Riverside Stebbins, 34-21; Madison Plains defeated Cedarville by a 44-0 score, and Bellbrook surprised host Waynesville, 47-7.

The Rams host London Madison Plains on Friday, Sept. 2. Other Friday games this week include: Carroll at Beavercreek; Bellbrook at Fairborn; and Kings Mills Kings at Xenia.

Cedarville has a rare Saturday, Sept. 3 game this week. They travel into Tuscarawas County in Northeast Ohio to take on Strasburg-Franklin.
