FAIRBORN — An appearance at the San Juan Shootout, along with a home tournament, highlight the 2016-17 Wright State women’s basketball schedule, released Thursday.
The Raiders, 24-11 last season, will be in San Juan, Puerto Rico during Thanksgiving weekend, taking on Georgetown, Friday, Nov. 25, followed by Clemson Saturday, Nov. 26.
WSU wraps up the non-league portion of its schedule with the Wright State Invitational, Presented by Holiday Inn, Dec. 19-21, taking on Eastern Kentucky, Fort Wayne and the Miami RedHawks.
Wright State, under first-year head coach Katrina Merriweather, hosts Urbana in exhibition action Sunday, Oct. 30, before opening the regular season Friday, Nov. 11, at Tennessee Tech. WSU hosts Grace in the regular-season home opener Monday, Nov. 14, before traveling to Illinois to face Eastern Illinois and Chicago State the following weekend.
WSU opens December at home against Kent State Wednesday, Dec. 7, before facing Big Ten opponent Illinois on the road Sunday, Dec. 11.
The remainder of the schedule is the 18-game Horizon League slate, with league play beginning Thursday, Dec. 29, at Milwaukee. The Horizon League Tournament will be played March 3-7 at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.
Wright State, which appeared in the WNIT for the second straight year, will face five teams that advanced to postseason tournaments last season — Green Bay in the NCAA; Georgetown and Milwaukee in the WNIT; Northern Kentucky and Youngstown State in the WBI.
