Beavercreek stays no. 1 in MVSSCA poll

Several area high schools remained ranked among the Miami Valley’s best in the latest Miami Valley Scholastic Soccer Coaches poll, released Friday.

In Boys Division I, Beavercreek earned 60 votes to claim the no. 1 spot. Xenia is currently ranked no. 8 in the same poll.

Carroll remains second in the MVSSCA’s Division II poll, just eight votes behind leader Kettering Alter. Bellbrook is ranked fourth in the D II boys poll, with neighboring Greenon currently ninth.

In D III, Yellow Springs is ranked no. 4 among Miami Valley schools with Metro Buckeye Conference foe Dayton Christian listed as no. 1.

In the girls Division I poll, Beavercreek finds itself ranked second, just eight points behind front-runner Springboro. Xenia is also ranked among the valley’s top D-I programs. The Buccaneers are in a tie with Vandalia Butler for eighth.

Three area teams are among the top-ranked teams in girls Division II: Carroll finds itself in second, just three points behind Greater Catholic League rival Alter. Bellbrook is ranked fifth, with Greenon rounding out the area’s top-10 in 10th.

There are no area teams currently ranked in the girls D-III poll.

Rams defeat Madison Plains

JAMESTOWN — Junior Olivia Maxwell scored three goals, Samantha Spaller scored a goal and had two assists, Hannah Ferrell had a goal and an assist, Kelsey Faris, Shelby Rutherford, Grace Nolan and McKyna Woods each scored a goal, and Kaitlyn Hinkle added two assists in Greeneview’s 9-0 girls soccer win over London Madison Plains, Thursday, Sept. 29 at Don Nock Field. Greeneview is back in action Thursday, Oct. 6 when they travel to Springfield Northeastern for a 5:30 p.m. contest.

Beavers, Panthers play to 3-all

SPRINGBORO — Beavercreek rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit to tie host Springboro, 3-3, Thursday, Sept. 29 at Ralph E. Wade Soccer Stadium. Dominic Calabrese scored two goals while Caleb Austin added another for the Beavers (8-1-1 overall, 6-0-1 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference’s National East Division).

Springboro leads the GWOC National West with a 6-2-3 overall mark, 4-0-2 in the division. Beavercreek will host Hilliard Bradley in a noon match today, Oct. 1 at Beavercreek High.

Rams ground the Golden Eagles

JAMESTOWN — Greeneview’s seventh grade won their best-played girls volleyball match of the season against London Madison Plains in two sets: 26-24, 25-12. Sarah Trisel led the team in scoring with 14 points, Brilea Bishop had four points, and Cheyenne Hubbard, Emma Waller, and Marissa Kincaid added three each. Greeneview played well defensively as well. Sarah Trisel had nine digs, Brilea Bishop and Laina Bogan had five, and Emma Waller had four.

Madison Plains rallies past Greeneview

JAMESTOWN — The Greeneview girls volleyball eighth grade team lost to Madison Plains in three sets, 25-22, 17-25, 22-25. Leah Hoyle led the team in scoring with 10 points, Kimmy Robinette had eight, and Rachel Strickle had seven. Kimmy Robinette had 17 digs, Elizabeth Reichley 16, Leah Hoyle 15, and Elizabeth McDonald 12.

CU, KWC play to deadlock

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Lady Jackets and Kentucky Wesleyan each had leads before settling for a 3-3 draw in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer make-up contest played Thursday, Sept. 29 at Bellarmine University. The match was originally scheduled in Cedarville on Sept. 10, but a severe thunderstorm just 30 minutes prior to kickoff made the home field unplayable.

Danielle Mahek’s first goal of the season from Hannah Whicker put the Lady Jackets on the board first in the 31st minute. KWC needed just three minutes to equalize.

The Panthers took their only lead in the 53rd minute. Less than three minutes later, Lauren Lichty netted her first career tally with an assist from Creslyn Van Dyck.

Cedarville grabbed its second advantage in the 67th when Van Dyck set up Hannah Atkinson for her team-leading fourth goal of the season. KWC created the final tie in the 78th minute.

Hanna Harris played all 110 minutes in goal while posting a career-high 12 saves for the Jackets, 2-6-1 overall and 2-3-1 G-MAC.

Reese G-MAC Golfer of the Month

CEDARVILLE — Cedarville junior Jordan Reese is the G-MAC Men’s Golfer of the Month for his performance during the month of September. Reese, a product of the Village of Cedarville, averaged 74.63 strokes per 18 holes in eight events.

He won the first-ever Great Midwest Fall Invitational with 71-69-140 (-4). His effort equaled the 36-hole school record. Reese was the NCCAA Midwest Region runner-up after carding 68-73-141 (-3). His opening round tied for the second-lowest 18-hole score ever at CU.

He finished tied for 22nd of 145 golfers at the NCAA Division II Fall Midwest Regional number one in Chicago with a 77-80-157. As a team, the Yellow Jackets were the NCCAA Midwest Region Champions and the Great Midwest Fall Invitational runner-up.

Cedarville returns to action on Oct. 17 at the Ohio Valley Invitational, in Marietta.

Raider Invitational this weekend

FAIRBORN — The Wright State women’s tennis team will host the Raider Invitational this weekend at Springboro High School and at the South Regency Tennis Center. The two-day tournament includes teams from Akron, Bowling Green, Dayton, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Murray State and Northwestern Ohio.

Turkey Shoot at WGC

XENIA — WGC Golf Course will be hosting the 16th annual Turkey Shoot golf outing at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8. All proceeds go to charity. The first 15 Turkey Shoots have generated more than $90,000 in donations. The proceeds are given to Groceryland, which then distributes vouchers for complete Thanksgiving dinners to the FISH Pantry.

These vouchers feed 200 families with five or more members and 50 veterans and their families. In addition, Volunteers in Service for Xenia serves Thanksgiving dinners at the Xenia Adult Recreation and Services Center, more than 700 to the community and shut-ins. For a $55 donation, receive golf, cart and a tee prize along with food and refreshments. Plus, there is a contest on every hole. Hole sponsors are sought. Deadline is Oct. 3.
