Fast start aids Fairborn win

FAIBORN — The Fairborn boys varsity basketball team jumped out to a 21-6 lead after eight minutes of play and rolled on to a 66-47 win Tuesday over Riverside Stebbins. It was the Skyhawks’ first win of the still-young season. No individual statistics were provided by Fairborn (1-3, 1-1 Greater Western Ohio Conference, American South). Fairborn plays at West Carrollton at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15.

Carroll falls to Urbana

RIVERSIDE — T.K. Robinson led Carroll with 13 points, while Eli Ramsey and Jack Seltsam scored 10 points each, but visiting Urbana jumped out to a 16-6 lead in the first quarter, then put the game away by outscoring the Patriots 17-5 in the fourth, to claim Tuesday’s 52-39 boys varsity basketball win at Carroll High.

Golden Eagles bash the ‘Bolts

BELLBROOK — After giving up 13 points to Clayton Northmont in the game’s opening quarter, host Bellbrook limited the Thunderbolts to 16 points for the rest of the game in Monday’s 62-29 girls varsity basketball win.

Eleven different girls entered the scoring column for Bellbrook, with Cassidy Hofacker being the only one in double figures with 17 points. Hofacker also had the shot of the night when, with 1.5 seconds left in the first half, she took an inbounds pass on the left side of the court, took two dribbles to her left and hit a half-court buzzer beater to send the Eagles in to the locker room up by 13.

Erin Mangen led Northmont (1-4) with 12 points. Bellbrook (4-2 overall, 2-0 in the Southwestern Buckeye League’s Southwestern Division) will host co-division leading Monroe (4-0, 4-0) at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17.

Carroll girls win again

RIVERSIDE — A couple days after scoring a career-best 35 points in a win over Roger Bacon, Amanda Schroeder scored the second most points of her career (27) in Monday’s Carroll girls basketball home win over New Carlisle Tecumseh. Patriots teammates Morgan King (12 points) and Sydney Ingram (10) also got into double-figure scoring in the win, and Schroeder turned in a double-double by hauling in 13 rebounds as well. The loss was the first of the season for Tecumseh (5-1). Carroll, now 7-0 overall, will return to Greater Catholic League Co-Ed play at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17 when they play at Cincinnati Purcell Marian.

LCA wins at home

XENIA — The Xenia Legacy Christian Academy girls basketball team defeated Springfield Emmanuel Christian, 49-21, on Monday in a Metro Buckeye League contest in Xenia. LCA is now 5-2 overall, 1-1 in MBC play. The Knights will next play at 6 p.m. Thursday at Troy Christian. Individual statistics were not provided by either team.

Xenia Warner defeats Springfield Gold

XENIA — Xenia Warner’s eighth grade boys basketball team defeated Springfield gold, 60-32, Tuesday. Alex Williams was the high scorer with 24 points. Michael Thompson added 10, Zack Gaither and Matthew Caupp each had six points, Dylan Hoosier scored five, Trevor McGuinness added four, Cole English scored three, and Kevin Johnson had two.

Skyhawk girls fall to Troy

TROY — The eighth grade Skyhawks girls basketball team started off slow in the first half allowing Troy to get out to a 22-7 lead. Fairborn turned it around after halftime and won the third quarter 9-8 and the fourth quarter 11-6, but it wasn’t enough as they fell 36 to 27 on Tuesday.

Fairborn induction set for Jan. 14

FAIRBORN — The Fairborn High School Athletic Department will host its third Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony beginning with a 4:30 p.m. dinner on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017 in the FHS Commons.

The 2016 Hall of Fame class consists of Ed McCloud (Class of 1964, Fairborn HS – Football/Baseball), Jackie (Smith) Whitaker (Class of 1981, Park Hills HS – Volleyball/Girls Basketball/Softball), Veasna Tith (Class of 1998, Fairborn HS – Boys Tennis), Fred J. Buschmeyer (Coach, Fairborn HS – Track & Field/Cross Country/Basketball) and the 1970 Boys Basketball District Championship team.

The official induction ceremony will take place at approximately 7 p.m. after the junior varsity boys basketball game and right before the scheduled 7:30 p.m. boys varsity game, at the Baker Memorial Fieldhouse, located at Baker Middle School, in Fairborn.

Xenia Athletic Hall of Fame ceremonies set

XENIA — The 2016 class of inductees to the Xenia Hall of Fame will be introduced at the Jan. 13, 2017 Xenia High School boys varsity basketball game. This is the sixth class to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

The 2016 Hall of Fame class — consisting of William “Bill” Wilson (track, and cross country coach 1954-‘79), Dr. David Hazel (football, track, class of 1970), Erin Hawley (swimming, 2008), Kristi Cope Elsman (soccer, basketball, 1993), Nick Ungard (golf, basketball, 1952), Richard Bennett (educator, coach, civic leader, 2016); Shawn Thigpen (basketball, track, 1993), Steve Smith (wrestling, 1988) and the 1985-‘86 XHS wrestling team — will attend the induction ceremony, which is set for 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017 at Faith Community United Methodist Church, 100 Country Club Drive.
