Tecumseh defeats Fairborn

NEW CARLISLE — Lady Skyhawks fall to a tough Tecumseh team, 40-63, on Monday. Fairborn came out slow in the first half, only scoring 16 points. But the Skyhawks picked it up in the second half, trailing by five points in the third quarter. Jana Brown-Griffith led Fairborn with 14 points, and Evelyn Oktavec added 12, Fairborn’s next game is a 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4 against Vandalia Butler.

CSU women win third straight

WILBERFORCE — The Central State Lady Marauders opened the new year with a convincing 75-52 win over the Wildcats of Fort Valley State on Monday night.

Leading the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in steals, the Lady Marauders eclipsed their season average with 16 on the night. They also forced FVSU in 28 turnovers. Offensively, CSU shot 44% from the field compared to the Wildcats’ 28% performance.

CSU senior guard Ghameerah McCullers led all scorers with 18 points, converting 9 of 18 field goals. Harley filled the stat sheet with 13 points, five assists, six rebounds and four steals. With the victory, the Lady Marauders extend their winning streak to three games. The team is currently 6-5 overall with a 3-2 mark in SIAC play.

Yellow Jackets hosting Wellness Fair

CEDARVILLE — The Cedarville University Athletic Department, in association with the University’s Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy as well as Up and Running fitness store, will sponsor a wellness fair on Thursday, Jan. 5.

The free event is scheduled for 4:30 to 7 p.m. in the Callan Athletic Center.

It’s wrapped around a Great Midwest Athletic Conference basketball doubleheader between the Yellow Jackets and Trevecca Nazarene.

Up and Running, a retail store specializing in fitness shoes and apparel, is the fair’s presenting sponsor. They will be one of multiple vendors in attendance. The School of Pharmacy will offer free health screenings and the School of Nursing will donate pedometers to the first 150 fair attendees.

On the court, the Lady Jackets meet Trevecca at 5:30 p.m., while the CU men face the Trojans at 7:45 p.m. Regular admission fees apply to the basketball games.

Xenia Athletic Hall of Fame ceremonies set

XENIA — The 2016 class of inductees to the Xenia Hall of Fame will be introduced at the Jan. 13, 2017 Xenia High School boys varsity basketball game. This is the sixth class to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

The 2016 Hall of Fame class — consisting of William “Bill” Wilson (track, and cross country coach 1954-‘79), Dr. David Hazel (football, track, class of 1970), Erin Hawley (swimming, 2008), Kristi Cope Elsman (soccer, basketball, 1993), Nick Ungard (golf, basketball, 1952), Richard Bennett (educator, coach, civic leader, 2016); Shawn Thigpen (basketball, track, 1993), Steve Smith (wrestling, 1988) and the 1985-‘86 XHS wrestling team — will attend the induction ceremony, which is set for 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017 at Faith Community United Methodist Church, 100 Country Club Drive.

Fairborn induction set for Jan. 14

FAIRBORN — The Fairborn High School Athletic Department will host its third Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony beginning with a 4:30 p.m. dinner on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017 in the FHS Commons.

The 2016 Hall of Fame class consists of Ed McCloud (Class of 1964, Fairborn HS – Football/Baseball), Jackie (Smith) Whitaker (Class of 1981, Park Hills HS – Volleyball/Girls Basketball/Softball), Veasna Tith (Class of 1998, Fairborn HS – Boys Tennis), Fred J. Buschmeyer (Coach, Fairborn HS – Track & Field/Cross Country/Basketball) and the 1970 Boys Basketball District Championship team.

The official induction ceremony will take place at approximately 7 p.m. after the junior varsity boys basketball game and right before the scheduled 7:30 p.m. boys varsity game, at the Baker Memorial Fieldhouse, located at Baker Middle School, in Fairborn.
